[Personal Experiences] Hisense TV's

Good afternoon all.
Have any of you, used the Skyworth Leap S1 - Android TV Box,
going for R999.00 at Makro, until Monday, if so, how does it
compare to other media boxes on the market.
Many thanks.

Never seen that one before, but specs & features look the same as my Mecer KM9pro, which is actually just a rebranded Mecool KM9pro.
Mecool KM9pro (Takealot)

Nice & fast, puts my TV's Vidaa OS to shame. The Google voice assistant is nice as well.
That's a decent price.

Only issue that many android TV boxes have is Netflix's annoying certification program.
A device's "Netflix approved" status is often a case of here today, gone tomorrow.

My rule of thumb is if it doesn’t say Google Certified then it’s a no go. Not sure if the Leap S1 is Google Certified but you looking for an Android box then the Mi Box is a safe bet.

Or now the MI 4k TV stick

Besides the ones available on the VIDAA appstore, unfortunately not.
Oh no. Been searching for a week how to sideload something on a 65U8G. No way to connect to a network drive either from what I can see. No Vidaa appstore on mine, where do you find this? I wonder if I can return this without the box.

Its not really an "appstore" per se, if you press the home button on your remote, it should open the main VIDAA interface. Look at the tiles, there should be one that says 'My apps'. If you click on that one, it will being up a grid of the ones available that you can install in addition to the existing ones.

I feared that was the case. There are like a dozen of which none are useful. So are the international versions of these TV's stuck with the same crippleware? Does not seem that way from clips on Youtube. Chances of fixing this with a non official firmware update?

I have this. It’s a really good Android TV box. It has Android TV and is Netflix, Disney Plus etc compatible

Nope, the international versions of these TVs run Android TV as their OS. Chances of fixing it with a non official firmware...unfortunately there is nothing that can be done (afaik) to load a different firmware. You'll need to go the Android TV box route (if you don't have one already). Its what I run in addition on my 65U6G. I love using the TV's Netflix app from time to time though for Dolby Vision and Atmos support for certain movies & series. For anything else, my MiBox does the job.

Hello everyone. I am in the market for a new TV (current one is the Hisense 65B8000) and I am currently considering the Hisense 65U8G. The version offered in Nigeria (same market as SA) is different from the north american version (which is all over reviews on YouTube)

I have half a mind to buy the Hisense from the US version of the U8G and have it shipped to Nigeria.. but the risk of being stuck without support should issues arise is holding me back.

On the other hand, it is hard to get a review of the 65U8G on offer in Nigeria and SA (probably the Middle east and Africa) hard to even do a detailed comparison.

Does anyone know if there is a particular international model the Africa U8G is modelled after? Something that can be used when searching for international review and as a basis for comparison. The LG official page for this product in SA is very limited on information.

Given my experience with a brand new 65U8G in SA the Vidaa OS renders it useless as a smart tv. I think the hardware is fantastic but crippled by the firmware.

Thanks @codus can you please confirm if it is a VA or IPS panel. There seem to be no way knowing the number of dimming zones.

I had to abandon plans to ship the U8G from the US. the cost of shipping would be so high, might as well just get an LG OLED.

No idea, I think earlier someone said it's VA (I think).

Is there a way to play content from a Windows share on the U8G SA version that has VIDAA - that is using built in apps not streaming to it?

This was what I needed up doing. It seems the Hisense U8G on offer in Nigeria is an IPS panel and that was a deal breaker for me. Shipping from the US was not an option due to cost and risk of getting a bad unit and having no warranty. In the end bit the bullet and got the LG G1.

My apologies if has already been covered somewhere in this thread, but does anyone own a hisense 65u7g and is it worth getting over the older model 65u7qf?

Whats you experience with the u7g?
PQ, black levels and atmos over the eARC ect.
