Johannesburg - The retail price of petrol will decrease by between 25c and 29c a litre on Wednesday October 1, the department of Minerals and Energy announced in a delayed release on Friday.
This follows a decrease of between 69c and 78c a litre at the beginning of this month.
91 octane petrol will decrease by 29c, 93 octane by 27c and 95 octane by 25c.
Diesel prices will also decrease, with 0.05% sulphur decreasing by 56c and 0.005% by 55c.
Wholesale paraffin decreases by 65c and illuminating paraffin by 87c.
The minister of minerals and energy has approved an increase of 2.6c per litre on the retail margin of petrol with effect from October 1.
Petrol in Gauteng now costs 941c a litre from 966c before and it is now 917c at the coast from 942c before.
During the period under review, the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin decreased.
The average rand/US dollar exchange rate weakened when compared to the previous period. The average rand/US dollar exchange rate for the period August 29 2008 to September 25 2008 was R8.0182 compared to R7.6845 during the previous period.

Well if I extrapolate this trend we will be getting free fuel in about 3 years' time.![]()
