Just received this in an email. Not sure how true or accurate it is:

Currently South Africans are forking out R9.96 for a litre of petrol. Here are the worlds ten most expensive fuel prices.

10. Italy and Portugal - R17,10
9. Finland - R17,80
8. U.K. - R18,10
7. Germany - R18,40
6. Denmark - R18,62
5. Eritrea - R19,18 (--Eritrea is a tiny African country with 4.5 million people that borders Ethiopia and the Red Sea. Just across the sea is Saudi Arabia.)
4. Netherlands - R20,22
3. Turkey - R20,28
2. Norway - R20,74
1. Sierra Leone - R36,86

Now that you've seen how much people are paying for petrol around the world and kind of feel relieved that we don't pay that much (although its close),
prepare to get a little angry and have a look at how little people are paying in other parts of the world.

8. Kuwait - R1,58
7. Swaziland - R1,08
6. Libya - R1,00

Minimum wage is 5.5 pounds/hour in the UK thus R83.60/hour at 8 hours a day 21 days a month that gives you R14044/month @ minimum wage.

Lol, so no I will not be happy about paying "only" R10.50/L

Minimum wage in SA is what R8/hour? Thus you cant even buy 1 L of petrol on an hours wage, but in the UK you can buy +-5 L for an hours wage @ minimum wage..... :mad:

With a few exceptions most of these are oil producers AFAIK. So they're getting huge discounts for this

Why aren't we all moving to Swaziland!? Surely that can't be right?

They subsidise their fuel.

I also just got the e-mail.
 
This is crazy and seeing how the salaries work it makes sense but not here for us we still plod on with our salaries that don't even increase for some people. Why is Swaziland's fuel so much cheaper that doesn't make sense!!!!!!!

E10.90 for diesel tonight (Tuesday, June 10, 2008)
FUEL prices are set to go up yet again tonight, with diesel increasing by 60 cents to E10.90 per litre.

The change in fuel prices, as of midnight, will be:

* ULP 95 increases from E9.30 to E9.60 per litre

* LRP 95 increases from E9.25 to E9.55 per litre

* Diesel increases from E10.30 to E10.90 per litre

* Paraffin increases from E8.25 to E8.55 per litre



Don't know the current price but it is more than in that list (which makes the whole list suspect)

you cant just do the ROE conversion and conclude that they are all expensive/cheap.
 
The lady I work with says that almost nobody have cars in Venezuela. Maybe that is why its so cheap? Supply and demand?

And E is how much compared to the Rand. Almost the same i suppose.

That Seychelles pricing is way off. I know a guy thats running a couple of 600kVA generators up there, he's ***king with the fuel prices, they are way higher than SA as all the fuel is imported.

Not a valid comparison, as in Europe a significant portion is a tax, and though I disagree with it I'm willing to bet they usually get better "value for money" for the tax portion than we do on ours. Subsidized fuel also masks costs.

I dunno, everywhere you look it shows seychelles as cheap, according to yahoo finance its $0.98 a gallon (1 gallon is about 3.8 lites)
