Petrol Quality Issues

But in the other thread you said Mahindra is horrible, unreliable and costs an arm and a leg to repair.

Oh and you said you would never recommend them ever again.
I said I am not so sure after that disappointment, obviously I am still living in hope that it's a once off thing.

Anyway, I am recommending a petrol Mahindra here, so forget my diesel Mahindra issues.

My 2 year old VW T-Cross started stuttering on the highway followed by engine warning lights coming on, car got towed. After investigating they came to the conclusion that it was the sparkplugs that had worn out prematurely due to bad fuel quality.

Apparently VW have been having huge issues with this as both the tow company and VW told me that they were earlier this year getting 6 cars in per day with issues similar to this. That number has now been reduced to about 2 per week according to them.

While everything was covered by warranty, they told me there is no real way to prevent it happening again and my best bet is to change where I put in petrol.

So the question is, where are you guys getting your petrol from and is it causing issues? I have always used Engen due to being with FNB, not sure who to change to though or if it would even help.

Bruh, this is why I'm scared to buy a vw (scirocco) or something similar, my toyota is from like 2006 and still troops along without a hiccup.

Don't know what went wrong with ur car but Mahindra diesel cars in india is considered very reliable.
But yes possibly because it's manufactured in India getting parts and service is much more easier.

replaced my fuel pump/filter earlier this year and the mech asked me where do I fill up coz the condition of the old filter was very poor, probably due to inferior fuel quality.

Where you based. we have a combined 18 yrs of TFSI VAG vehicles without a single issue. 2 of which hit 100 000kms +. granted i only use busy garages. could be like the roads. cape town just built better
Lol I am based in Durban

Circling back to this post - The spark plugs were fouled up and have had to be replaced 2 more times since my last post. Once was an expensive flat bed job too as I broke down on the freeway...

I cannot go through the cycle of needing to replace these every few months as I no longer feel confident using my car for long trips in fear of it being synced up with this issue.

Has anyone else with a VW and this problem solved it? Different branded spark plugs? Extra additives?

I have only ever had one similar issue on a VW but it was a 1993 Caddy fitted with an ABF on ITB's and with it being tuned to not run filters, it would over fuel when running filters and foul up the plugs from time to time. It may be a silly question, but have you made sure the correct plugs are being fitted? Perhaps have an independent workshop take a look?

Fouled plugs not fuel but mostly oil burning. You might take it to vw dealer to investigate further.

The dealership will rip him off. Rather let a recommended/reliable indy assess.

I think you should know by now that you got one of those German lemons.

Time for a trade-in at a branch that doesn't know about the problems you've been having.

OP can sell the VW and buy a Mahindra XUV 300

Similar sized, similar power figures and easy on the eye, probably good fuel economy.

You need to take it to someone that knows the vehicle make.
It could be many things and he would have to problem solve until the issue is found.
Could be timing issues, porous head, oil/water ingress, wrong plugs, fueling etc etc.

What is the oil consumption like?
Either the air/fuel mixture is wrong or oil getting into the combustion chamber.

It still baffles me that low volume cars cars with sophisticated powertrains like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, Porsche etc bring there cars here and use local fuel but mass produced cars eg. latest gen Fiesta ST can’t be sold here because of fuel quality.

On this T-cross, you need to off load as soon as the warranty is over. Once a VAG TSI engine starts giving issues they are guaranteed continue doing so and it will also save you from inevitable DSG headaches later on as well.

That's what I was thinking, the shtty TSI engine imploding due to preignition or something similar and VW is just replacing the oil contaminated spark plugs each time to try push the car past the warranty period so they won't need to replace the engine.

I've never heard of a petrol engine needing new spark plugs from contaminated petrol station bought fuel and especially not multiple times. Vw is trying to pull a fast one.
