Inb4: "Don't buy Peugeot"
Some advice requested, most politely. I'm being very, very polite at the moment which means I'm trying my best to not strangle anyone.
Bought a Peugeot 5008 about a year ago (2011, 50k on the clock) - it drove flawlessly and beautifully. Until, on a routine check, I noticed oil in the water
erm
. Entered panic mode and general unease. Assured by Peugeot that it was an issue with the oil cooler and *not* a problem with the head gasket or anything like that.
Now, I know that these cars don't *have* oil coolers in SA originally, the coolers are fitted after market because of our climate and were only introduced because of a rash of cracked pistons and destroyed cylinders.
So OK, they "replace" the oil cooler. Then phone me to say they made a mistake and they'll have to send the car back to me with the "old" cooler until the new part arrives. I confirm with them that the car will drive fine and this won't cause any damage. Two weeks later, new oil cooler is fitted. Everything is great again.
Two services later and I have a loss of power - take it into them and they say it's the spark plugs. Awesome, that's an easy fix.
But wait, why would the spark plugs have a problem if you changed them in the service I hear you say. Well, it turns out that they did the wrong service - twice. So they did two 80 000 KM services in a row. Whoops.
Then I get the next phone call - terribly sorry, it's not the spark plugs, you need a new engine. A piston has cracked and farked up a cylinder. Happily, this is still under warranty so I'm not yet panicked about the R130k bill. Then warranty (SA Warranties) tell me that they'll cover R20k of the replacement.
So now, here I sit trying to figure out how much of a fight I'm going to have. Fight #1 is with Peugeot directly. My POV at the moment is that there's a string of mistakes that have been made and I'm very much not going to be paying for their mistakes.
Fight #2 is with SA Warranties - someone needs to explain to me how you imagine paying for that little is useful
Any pointers or tips or information would be very useful
