I've got a Vodaphone E220 modem that works fine but recently I see that my data usage soars up with a usage rate (according to mobile connect) of +-1.5 mb/sec download. This occurs when I have nothing open, no browser, no games etc. All I have to do is connect to the net and I lose 50Mb in as many seconds. I want to know what is downloading and how to stop it!??! I have turned off my windows 7 auto updates, stopped updates from anti virus, and made sure no other auto updates (that i know of) are running.

Is this a case of spyware or some sort of virus that is causing these phantom downloads? I have virus protection and it picks up nothing (Security essentials).

I am new to win7 so i would just like some suggestions as to what exactly could be downloading and is there any way or any program that allows me to see what is using the bandwidth? I'm Prepaid and this has began to cost me

Thank you

I think the guru's on here normally recommend somthing called "NetLimiter". This should show you what process or program is instructing your modem to download stuff.

Check for stuff like Adobe updater on any products you have from them. It's nearly impossible to kill and it steals bandwidth like a thieving tokolosh without telling you.

You can also try using Zone Alarm , a third party firewall .
