I have to get a new phone and a new camera (point n shoot).

Therefore i am strongly considering an iphone cause it seems to be a good 2(x100) in 1.

How would you rate the camera on the iphone4?
Obviously it's also something i'd carry with me all the time in comparison to a digiCamera.

ps. this is not the only reason i want to buy it but one of the main ones.

thanks

What about the Nokia N8? Seems to be the best camera phone currently out there.

The N8 has a camera that is quite a lot better.
At the end of the day cellphones have cameras but are not as good as cameras designed to be cameras.

Yeah, N8 is without doubt the best camera phone currently on the market but the compromise is the outdated Symbian OS.

I played around on an iPhone over the weekend and the camera on it is pretty damn good. You wont be disappointed by it either.

The iPhone 4 is my pick because I rate it's camera just as good as the N8, and it's a much better phone.

That's going to be your ideal solution. Cellphone cameras, including the N8 and iPhone 4, are certainly upping the anti but they still lack certain basic functionality that even the cheapest P&S has such as variable apertures and varying focal lengths.

That said I have used my friends iPhone4 and the image quality is decent. Also, while other brands may struggle, the iPhone obviously integrates nicely with the OsX.

yea, the biggest thing for me is that i would be able to have the "camera" with me wherever i go. It's not really for getting great pics, cuase i'm not gonna print them anyway. It's for capturing the moment. It sound to me, that it's good for capturing the moment. Is it? ...

That all depends on what the moment is. A large component of photography is framing and that ideally needs to suit the subject matter.

good point.

also: what i didn't mention before is that normal camera does not have internet, thus i cannot upload my pics. This is a biggie.

I have to agree... Having 3 kids the iPhone camera is perfect for capturing the moments and the LED flash makes nite shots a lot better.

Also being able to upload them instantly is great... But that can be done from any phone... I have about 1400 pics on my phone and i have them with me all the time in case want to show a particular time or place etc...

I've been really impressed by the iPhone4's camera. It's fair to say the first few snaps I took astounded me with how good the quality is. I've never really used the camera on any phone I've had because the quality has never been any good. Since getting the iPhone I use the camera all the time. For general mik-n-drik i have no problem recommending the iPhone camera.

A cool app for panorama / wide angles on phone - AutoStich from Appstore. Stitches several pics together for you.

Funny enough my P&S does have an ethernet port but I've never bothered to use it. I've also got an Eye-fi SD card that lets me upload photos from any wifi spot but I haven't actually used that either. :D

Anyway, I can see you're trying to talk yourself into an iPhone so I won't interrupt further, its a great phone though as far as cameraphones go probably not as good as the N8. All I suggest is that you buy yourself a nice little point and shoot as well. :)
