We are getting a phone for my daughter's 17th birthday. She always just got hand-me-downs. Which phone would she like. We're considering the following ones. We're die-hard Nokia fans, but came across one I think she'll really like, but don't know anything about LG phones...
1. Nokia 5000
2. Nokia 3500 Classic
3. Nokia 7210 Supernova
4. LG KS360 Chatterbox

If anyone can give me info/pros/cons on these phones I would greatly appreciate it.

Best thing to do is to go to the shops and ask for demo or dummy models, play around with that for a while and see if it'll be fine for her.

No good in buying a phone with a tiny keypad if she'll be doing a lot of SMS'ing.

You want to make your daughter very happy?? Yes??

Get her a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. She will not want to look at another phone again. That's what I would've done.;)

She's 17... for a few weeks the phone will keep her happy, then it's back to boys and THEIR toys :p

when buying a phone, all depends on what you want out of it... had a massive argument with a mate of mine.. he got an iphone, i got x1... both great phones, but totally different.. one is a multimedia device ( i think its a gimmicky toy - iphone that is ) , and the other a business tool... if i had the iphone, i would say it is useless, as would my mate if he had the x1...

so, find out what your daughter would use it for... photos? smsing? mxit? internet? email? facebook? hell... you can even get software that can track where she is with the gps... so that might even be an option...
then... you have to decide... qwerty keyboard? number keypad? no buttons? touch screen only? touch screen with number pad?

eish... so glad i knew what i want and went for it... to decide a new phone now is like... eish

She will mostly be using it for MXit and SMSing and receiving calls, probably not phoning out too much.

Why do you say the LG specs seems to be crap? If I compare the LG KS360 and the Nokia 5000 the LG wins by far on battery life and I even think Camera, etc.

Does the KS360 come with a 1GB memory card? I'll be getting it on the Vodacom Family TopUp 135 for her.

All I can get free and what I'm interested in is basically the phones above. I'm not spending money on the phone, just getting a topup contract and get a phone "free".

why dont you see what your options are... ie: find out what is for free on the contact... then take it from there...
compare the phones.. you know what she will use it for... so take it from there...

or, even post the options here, and hear all the comments on each phone...

EDIT... nevermind... you did that already.... are those the only ones for free??? or have you already narrowed it down to those?

Yeah, basically narrowed it down to those. There are some samsung ones too, but I know she doesn't like Samsung. Lots of other Nokia ones too, but those are the more "funky" ones. The others are black and white and no WAP connectivity for MXit, etc.
