Hi All,

I need to get a new phone for my elderly mom. I am hoping to fulfill the following requirements :

1. Keyboard as opposed to touch screen
2. Simple interface
3. Low on data usage
4. Whastapp
5. Battery life better than average smart phones.
6. On contract

i was thinking to go along the lines of a Nokia Asha 210 or maybe some kind of a BlackBerry, but would like some opinions on this.

Do you know of any phones that some non-tech savvy people find working with easy? Any phones that you could recommend?

I was in exactly the same predicament, and my mother (60+) is now on her second Nokia 206:

What makes it so great is that you can activate a 'simple' mode for the menus, so there's only one icon at a time instead of a 'confusing' grid.

Crank up all the volumes to maximum, disable predictive text, and you're golden. Runs Whatsapp like a bomb too.

The only disclaimer here is that these things are very difficult to find ... I really struggled with the last one, because Nokia was already on its way out back then. My mother loved it though, so I finally uncovered one in a forgotten corner of a Woolworths. At R500, it's a bargain.

You could go for the Nokia 220, which is similar to the 206, but was released last year.

That's true Pezulu, I remember checking that out. Only opted against it in the end because the buttons aren't raised and separated like the 206, so it's easier to mis-type for an old person. Maybe KRetief's mother won't have butter fingers like mine though, lol.
