Phone or computer?

In the first month of Apple’s iTunes App Store going live, users downloaded 60m software applications to their iPhones. The App Store is arguably the most compelling feature of the iPhone and is changing the way people think about mobile devices.

This article contradicts what the pushed back date is now..."45days or so?"

Well it's not like iTunes is exactly worth anything. lol.

Correction: it's not like iTunes is available to us South Africans... Hey! Maybe they'll allow South African credit cards so that you can purchase the applications, so long as you tick a little box that says that you promise to never, ever buy any music or movies...

You can buy applications on iTunes from South Africa. So you can register and buy as many as you want. There will never be any crossing between iTunes stores. Its all up to the record companies in South Africa to strike up deals in order to make an SA music iTunes possible. But the record companies think they can make more money out of selling CDs in SA, so they don't give a damn right now, that is until they start going bankrupt (cant wait!)

iTunes and the iTunes Store are two different things. Talk to d0b33 if you want an iTunes account. Being "from" South Africa does not mean you are "in" South Africa right? ;)

Oh and I should probably say something about the apps store. Been trying it since the weekend. Not bad, lot of free stuff. But under a jailbroken iPhone I get Cydia and the new Installer and that gives me a whole load of free stuff.

Using Opera mini (instead of Opera mobile) and Gmail java app (instead of built-in email support) on a Series 60 devices is just dumb. The browser and internal mail client is far more advanced than those java applications. If you really do not like the built in features rather use a Symbian application than Java. I hear Opera Mobile 9.5 will be the best browser for smartphones yet. Currently the beta is available for WM.

Yep, local cartels I mean distributors are to be blamed.

Arg... you're still at it?

Yes, we get it, YOU don't like the iPhone, or you're jealous or something....

I would go with the latter...

You can really go with anything you like sonny, all I meant with a grown up phone is a phone that grown ups use.

  • It uses buttons with text and not pictures.
  • It can send big emails.
  • It can take big pictures.
  • It allows us remove the storage card from it.
  • It can MMS.
  • It can copy/paste functionality.
  • It can turn off predictive typing.
  • It can multi task.
  • It keeps track of call durations in the calls log.
  • It can snooze appointments and set repetitive alerts.
  • It can record video.
  • It can voice dialing.
  • It can send files through the air (Bluetooth file transfer) and also play stereo music like that.
  • It can navigate using GPS.
  • It has a real GPS that is accurate to the meter.
  • It has a FM radio.
  • It can go into offline mode for when you do not want to be bother or find yourself in a airplane.
  • It has a hardware button for camera.

There is nothing wrong with your toy phone and it looks lovely and it very pretty. I am happy you like looking at it and playing with it. But someday when you grow up and need a phone that can do the things listed above then you will need a grown ups phone and then you will understand what we are talking about.

Its grown up stuff as I said. Now run along and go iPlay :)

All I want is a simple phone, I don't need a toy to attempt taking poor pictures, poor videos, GPS, as a mature person I get the best device for the job and my laptop is my preferred multitasking device that can communicate with a proper camera etc, I have owned phones that have everything but I would prefer getting a proper device to do the job properly... btw the iphone has an airplane mode switch:rolleyes:

That was also my philosophy exactly. But then they passed the no-camel-poop-on-the-sidewalk bill and I was forced to carry all those devices by myself. I got tired, older and wiser. I now have a N82 :p
