Interesting concept - although i do not know if it will work unless the internal microchip is fitted by the manufacturer.

I suspect it would also generate many false alarms

Thirdly, due to the microchip technology the cellphone then shuts down. It cannot be turned on again regardless of the thief changing simcards or the battery, until reactivated with the remote control for that particular phone.

Cell Phone theft = increased sales and dependency on contract style subscription and a healthy phone insurance market = more money for cell rapers.

Ever wondered why you're not allowed to import cell phones yourself?

As mikef says - there's little incentive for them to disable a phone that generates revenue.

Lol Bwana, they will give it a try and entertain it, but not roll it out and back it 100%. Its also not only SPs that benefit, Insurance companies do and even the manufacturers themselves, even some chancing phone users that really just want another newer phone and tend to "misplace" them.
