Photo Comps

Changing the rules/process after the fact would be a crappy move.

Changing the rules/process after the fact would be a crappy move.

It would be - At this stage it doesn't really matter what process they used - but doing a public poll makes it very hard to change now. If the poll was the way to win then the winner of the poll gets the prize. If it didn't work then tough luck they should do it differently the next time.

You can please some of the competition entrants part of the time,
but you can never please all of the competition entrants all of the time.
Ok, no wait, you can't really please hardly any of them at any time...
except the winner... they usually are pleased.
Except when they are not pleased.

Moral of the story... is it really gonna matter five minutes after death?

There are working competition structures for things like this that are wholly fair that will please anyone able to understand how it works and why it's fair. If you use a flawed system it's to be expected there will be both finalists and those that have been knocked out that'll be disgruntled, because nobody likes seeing a half-working taxi fumbling about on the street.

So yes, you can please everyone except those that are unreasonable if you use a working structure.
You can't please everyone, if anyone, with a broken one.

So what is happening with the Canon photo competition? Are they going to announce the winner? Its been a pretty strange competition overall. I presume that there will be a winner announcement thread in the Photography section?
There usually is. I suspect rpm is rather busy with preparations for tomorrow but I'll see what I can find out. :)

Well this last competition turned out to be rather odd.
This is inherently the problem with polls, always subjective.

It might be an idea to look at a panel of judges for future competitions to remove solicitation for votes and allow for a more objective selection of the winner.
You can still allow a poll to vote for a "peoples' choice" award or prize.

Nevermind my question was answered with readign 3 posts up :p
