I've got a number of photos of people that need to be cropped and printed in this size, vert. 12.5cm x horiz. 8.5cm

How do I do that in Photoshop.

I'm a complete novice with photoshop.

Do a Google search on cropping images. There is a tool in Photoshop which allows to to crop to a certain size. Otherwise give Picasa a try. Easier to use than photoshop.

1) Open photoshop..
2) Open each photo one at a time
3) Click on the rectangular Marquee Tool (second from the top on the toolbar) - looks like a dotted box. Cursor should change to a plus sign.
3) Drag selection tool over the photo where you want to crop the photo ... i.e. select the area of the photo that you want to keep.
4) When it is selected, click on the Image Menu and choose crop.
5) Click on File and Save As to give the new sized photo a different file name (don't save over previous one).
6) Now Click on the Image Menu again and this time choose "Image Size"
7) Set the Image to the size you want (you might have to play around with the size to get it right), you should set the longest side to match your biggest size requirement.
8) After it has resized then save it agian.
9) Just be aware that when you go to print, there is also a resize option on the print menu so be careful.

1. You're using a pirate copy of PS
2. Download Gimp (or for that matter Irfanview, Faststone, xnView etc)
3. Make your request again

Wow, that's a big assumption to make there, Al! Got any evidence to back up that claim?

Picard, where will these photos be printed? You printing them yourself or taking them somewhere? Either way, you probably don't need to resize them ahead of time.

True it isn't mine. It's a colleague's who is a wedding photographer on weekends. He installed it on one of our computers at work but has moved to another school end of last year.

I don't have the original CD.

I don't see the relevance of this to the thread? Either help the guy or shut up.

What version of Photoshop are you using?

(Going from memory here)

Open all the photos, use the marquee tool (the dashed box) and change it to fixed region and then type in those dimensions. Then click anywhere on the photo with the marquee tool, a selection to the size that you specified should appear.

Mofo!!!!!! [slaps forehead]

You're a genius!

EDIT: Next question if I may. I would also like to write the name of the people just below their faces. How do I change the characters to something fancy. White letters with black outlines for example. Or maybe even a little embossed ...
