I lean more to ebooks these days since I have physical space problems. Though I do make exceptions for sales and comic books.

I must have the physical book on my shelf...but then I download and read the e-version.
(I hate wear and tear on my books.)

So technically, I prefer reading the e-book version, but only to preserve the actual book.
:D

E-books I can change the fontsize. Some of the physical books I can't read because of fontsize. Yeah and its easier to pack a kindle when traveling.

Physical.

Much easier to bookmark when studying. Also much easier to cross-reference when studying. eBooks are a PITA when studying.

Technical, Reference or Instructive/Study type non-fiction - Physical book.
Lots of photo's or images - Physical book
Everything else - ebook

I fell for the e-book route when the whole idea was in its infancy. I bought a whole lot of technical books. The theory being that when I travel, I would always have them at hand if needed.

THEN reality set in. The books were/are tied to a specific player and a specific device, and that device gets stolen/damaged/ etc.

What now? I had laid out the cash for the books, now found out I no longer have access to them, can't transfer the licence to another device or player?

So sorry for the industry, until someone convinces me that this problem has been TOTALLY solved, e-books is just a pipe dream and I will not invest in anything but a printed copy again.

Physical to study

E-Book to quickly find answers with the Search function

Not a specific device, a specific file format.
Calibre solves that problem....

Back up all your ebooks, convert between formats, remove DRM etc

Ebooks.

However, I can buy physical books 2nd hand for a pittance, so I still have a growing collection of physical books.

Plus there is a certain type of satisfaction about reading your information from a the mangled corpse of dead tree.

I haven't read a physical novel in years, they have all been eBooks, I particular like the amazon whispersync function, sync between my tab and phone. Gives me something to read in bog at work. I do miss physical text (technical) books though.

No preference. I've got stacks of books in both formats.

What do you prefer Jamie?

Reading for relaxing has to be physical. Programming guides etc I buy the e- book. When programming I'm on the pc anyway so might as well have the doc open on the second screen and reference there.
