Pick'n'Pay AIM TVs discussion

What is the picture quality like, on the AIM TV's, compared to Samsung and LG. Want a panel, to connect a Shield TV streamer to.

My mom got so used to the 50" Hisense at the holiday house that she said she was thinking of getting something bigger back home. She still has an ancient 32" Sony Bravia LCD. So the wife and I decided we'll give her a mothers day surprise.

Ancient Sony Bravia? You have a different view of what ancient means!

Which pnp is selling these? I checked online but couldn't find it.

Generally the speakers are cheap, also the space below the TVs are small and no space. But this 58" TV sound isn't bad if I turn on what they call Total Sonic.
Other then that if my MIL can hear the TV at 20 that's good. The LED50p36 we had to ramp that up to 35 maybe 40.View attachment 1049093
where does one find this 'total sonic'?

I have 2x 58" AIM's (rebranded CZ1958 ex JHB assembly iirc).

The first has just picked up a nice vertical line :(

I think I paid R3999 per unit during Black Friday. I wonder how easy the warranty process is going to be, considering I ordered these online!...

It's OK, considering the price. I think it is some kind of TN panel as you do loose colour accuracy from the side. One both the ones I bought the top line seems to start in the middle of the screen. Initially I though it was of the excessive strain the plastic screen protector had then I tried to pull it off. It looks the same on the one I bought for my mom.

Colour fade from the side :

Half of top line is dead :

The screen protector peel killed a few pixels on the 32" Sansui we bought for my daughter last year.

Okay so I got the 43" Frameless AIM TV from pick n pay, R3199 for a 43" not to bad and the extra " is apparently cause it's frameless. The colours do fade on the side, don't see any dead pixels yet, but man the speakers suck. So luckily I had a set of old PC speakers that are 20w and those are plugged in via the headphone jack. This is for my sons gaming room so he doesn't mind. Weirdly enough not in bigger PNPs found it at my smaller one I normally go to. Wasn't going to get it, but there were only 2 left and this is the same price as most 32"

Pics please.

Also is it "smart" or "dumb"?

Dumb as dumb can be :-) wasn't aiming for smart, was also an impulse buy cause saw it at my PnP. I'll provide pics, but it's not wall mounted at the moment, on an old TV stand and those feet aren't stable either.

Can't really get angled shots, first 2 shots are DVD quality, next shots are HD. It actually tried to go to 1440pIMG_20210519_131033.jpgIMG_20210519_131051.jpgIMG_20210519_131313.jpgIMG_20210519_131259.jpg

Okay so fiddling with it a bit yesterday before son came home, the menu is rather limited, reminds me of early 2010 Sinotecs, no backlight adjustment options. Onboard speakers aren't great at all but at least it has a headphone jack, the first HDMI port is ARC enabled as well so that was surprising.
Angles aren't great but aren't too bad for the price, what I still surprised about is 10 years ago when I bought my last TV this size it was double the price and it was still CCFL so it was a lot bigger.
I mean for an Xbox One S playing Fortnite, Minecraft, Just Cause and such this is fine.

Just going hijack this thread for a minute.

I was keen on the 75inch UHD from pnp for R10k,but having to let it slide right now.

But I then saw the Telefunken 55inch UHD at Game for R4999.
But I feel there may be a misprint, because the same model on Game's site is R6999. Only R4999 Telefunken is a FHD.

I'd still wanna walk into a store and take a chance. But I couldn't find the refresh rate or any decent reviews. And the 1 year warranty is also a bit off putting.

Anyone have experience with Telefunken 55inch UHD?

And would this be OK for Xbox Series S gaming?

Well the AIM 58" was R3999 at one point, the Telefunken could be a diamond in the rough, though I am imagining the menu is going to be limited.

Still very please with my two R4k 58" TVs and their 3 year warranty does give peace of mind.
Rub it in did you do a YouTube review on them?
My son is still happy with his 43" and I must say I really like the look of it and the picture isn't bad either, not spectacular but not bad
