Impression but it's as likely for a forward facing seat to suffer the same failure, especially with the ISO anchors etc. All I'm saying is that I agree with the young sub 18 month to be rear facing, even as long as possible but there gets a point to where it's uncomfortable and the benefits negate like in the image for large children.

FYI, this is just my opinion, will freely state that but also experience with two kids.

I'm equating with the same logic that it will happen with a front facing seat. Both scenarios highly unlikely.

Uncomfortable for them? Keep im mind what looks uncomfortable to you isn't for a gymnast

... same with kids, think of them as the next Olympic dream and think of the seat as their gym :crylaugh:

The same is for reverse surely ( although I get the point that the force would be substantially less due to a collision in the same vector )? In the case of rear end collisions? No matter which way a seat is facing, there is a risk. Also if rear facing seats are safer then why aren't they the norm for most passenger vehicles?
 
I'm actually the pr!ck motorist who makes people open their windows when I see kids standing on the seat/not strapped in and gives the parents/drivers a piece of my mind.
I've even called people murderers but the scary thing is that even after you lecture them, they couldn't care- most people tell me to mind my own business etc

Kids need to be taught at school that seat belts need to be worn and they should actually educate their idiot parents

In Sweden rear facing is commonly practiced and advised by government & law enforcement.
And then this happens... fatalities and serious injuries are close to zero for young children in Sweden.

"Most Scandinavian countries require children to sit rear-facing until at least the age of 4 years. This has contributed to Sweden having the lowest rate of children killed in traffic in international comparisons.[25]"

If you've ever been rear ended while wearing your safety belt in a car with a headrest you would understand.
 
Car manufacturers could do more.

My Toyota Hi-Ace allowed me to rotate the middle seat so that it was rear facing. My kids were always buckled in to this rear facing seat. It should be so for adults as well.
 
Great point why should anyone other than the driver face forward in any case?
Would be the safest car statistically ever designed
 
Do any vehicles come with front facing rear DVD screens?

I'm asking this because a child being restraint in the back seat facing the rear is more likely to throw a tantrum if it were facing the front.

Some some of rear seat distraction is therefore required.

Even front seat.

Once self driving cars become mainstream, I think we might see this appear.

Why they don't do it on busses and coaches though(places where people don't wear seatbelts) is beyond me.
