I have seen huge improvements over the last week. I have also noticed a lot of Telkom activity in the neighbourhood so I hope that the issues have been sorted. Has anyone else noticed a change?

Lucky you. mine has actually deteriorated over the last week. Telkom did attend to my problem on Friday as a call was logged earlier the week. The sad part about it is that the techie said he think that he found the problem, but I realized on Friday evening, Saturday & Sunday that it did not solve my problem.
 
You guys still doing good? Im having some serious latency spikes, it goes ingame from 280 to 1000+ and getting DC'ed alot, never happend before.

My local ping is 69 but my line speed is sitting at 0.5mb on a 4mb line...

The above have been my story since last week. Telkom techie was here and apparently "fixed" something. Taking a speedtest gives me a latency test result of around 72 ms and then freeze after that with the above error message.

Tonight is the first time since last Thursday whereby I managed to get a result from the speedtest. Look at this result from a 4meg line:



I'm starting to loose faith...
 
For the last 2 weeks I haven't had a single performance/latency issue; however I'm on the other DSLAM (the 512kbps up DSLAM); jellievis, it looks like you are on the 640kbps up DSLAM (I was on that one for a long time with constant issues....)

So maybe keep on poking telkom and the next time a techie comes, ask him to move you to the other dslam ?
 
I have no idea what DSLAM I am on even.... But Im getting insane data losses....MMO will be running fine then just DC for some reason, I have never had a DC in months...after telkom did a maintenance everything is to hell!!! These guys just suck. Wish they would outsource Telkom tech to someone that knows how to fix problems....

So demotivated with Telkom....

You and me both Fayera...

Although my ADSL performance is now awesome and latency where it should be, I experience loads of in-game packet loss which is of course also bloody irritating.
 
How did I miss this thread? Another PvR resident here. I don't do much gaming but I've noticed that streaming has gone downhill a lot (justin.tv, veetle.com, etc)
 
Ingame package losses is that the game server or is it telkom?

Dare I say mine is better, but still not up to scratch. This is now after I moved my line back to Telkom.

Against the good advice provided on this and other forums I let my ISP take over the ADSL line from Telkom and needless to say, I learnt the hard way. Well, let me not speak too soon as it is only a few days now and the speed improvement can be due to something else, but it will really be a coincidence if this happened the same time my ADSL line was moved back to Telkom.
 
Mr Jax, I wish I just know where the problem was. But then again, that is really not important, is it?
 
Nice to see your issue seems resolved Mr.Jax, Telkom seem to be getting a few things done - I'm on 10mbps techincally now which is great, but using a bad alternative route now with 37dB attennuation instead of the 6dB i had before, because 4 years later they still haven't replaced the stolen cables over here... my neighbours have no telkom service at all since then, shame.. lol
 
My line speed has gone from bad to worse sitting at 40kb/sec now on a 4mb line, Telkom is opefully coming out today, will ask him to put me on a new port or something. But this is really bad.

My ADSL Stats seems fine, how could one test the line between my house and the exhange? or even the port on the exhange?

Yeah, Also wish I knew where the problem was, but given all the stuff I've tried, the only thing that remained was back-haul, DSLAM or ESR issues (or whatever else lies up the chain).
Have you tried a different ISP ?

Observations about your latency:
I would have expected a latency of around 20ms (or a little bit less) for the PvR exchange.
Beginning of this year, Telkom did something and my latency was 39-40ms instead of 18ms. It just changed back one day, leading me to believe that they were working on back-haul stuff. So, maybe they are ?
EDIT: Scrap the above...looks like your ISP traffic first goes to Cape Town ? (if .cpt points to that of course)

Have you tried a different ISP (latency of 40ms is still great) ?

No I have been with WA since I started, never had problems will have a lok around, who do you use? We mainly use internet for gaming only. My line speed is now back to 3.5 MB since 8:30 and it goes to shat at 16:00 till about 8:30 mostly everyday....

Got a call from Telkom gerrit someone saying they are looking to the DSLAM that it may be faulty
 
Mr Jax, I did try another ISP and initially the other ISP was a somewhat better, but recently after the "fix" the ISPs almost match each other in speed.
