Hi all,

Trying to help a friend find out her ping, she is in Taiwan. She says she can't ping google, although she has internet.

It says; www.google.com is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

Is pinging in Vista different?

I just opened a command prompt, typed in ping www.google.com and it worked perfectly so I'm not sure what her problem is. Running Vista Business.

hehe. typing in "www.google.com" will attempt to locate a program called "www.google.com" or try to open a file in that directory. Which is why that error message states "...not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file".

she must type
Code:
[B]ping[/B] www.google.com
and not just www.google.com

She typed in "ping www.google.com"

I'm guessing to see what your actual ping is, latency etc.

Yes that's correct, just wanted to see the latency. Though google would served best.

But she still tells me she gets the error, will try again tomorrow. :(

Thanks all. :)

No, I had this problem some time back too.

The problem is, that the PC doesn't find the ping program because the path variables are messed up.

Tell her to first go to the system32 directory with the cd command (i.e. current dir must be c:\windows\system32). Then it will work.;)
