According to a new study by the IDC, consumers across the globe are spending billions of dollars fighting viruses and malware-induced cyber attacks brought on through the use of pirated software – South Africans included.

Look on the bright side. At least one industry is benefitting.

A very misleading headline !

According to a new study by the IDC, consumers across the globe are spending billions of dollars fighting viruses and malware-induced cyber attacks brought on through the use of pirated software – South Africans included.

It should read Malware costs consumers billions - and malware is not limited to pirated software by any means.

I love this little gem though....

45% of the time, counterfeit software slowed their PCs, and the software had to be uninstalled

Like genuine software doesn't do that either...

Microsoft said this... Microsoft said that... blah, blah, blah....

Only 58% of local respondents said that they always install security updates to keep their software up to date.

The pirates forced them not to update their anti-virus I suppose.

And of course people with genuine software are completely immune to infection of any kind.

Rubbish, pointless article.

So, lead by example government and use a free secure alterative (linux)... bet you suddenly the articles will read "Free software costs 1 trillion hours and goazillain rands to keep running".

Linux is not secure..... maybe more difficult to crack than Windows, but definitely not secure
