MURRIETA, Calif. -- Authorities say a mother who already lost custody of two children in 2008 will lose custody of her 6-month-old boy whose testicles were chewed off by two large dogs in Riverside County.

Murrieta police say the 22-year-old mother Carrie McKinney had left the baby in a carrier on the floor in her friend's apartment last Saturday.

Sgt. Bob Landwehr says the woman left the room and soon after, a pit bull and pit bull mix attacked the baby, tearing off the infant's diaper and biting his scrotum.

The mother and friend, Doug Ritchey, heard screaming and rescued the baby, who is hospitalized in unknown condition, police said.

Child Protective Services workers took the baby from the mother, Murrieta police Sgt. James Ganley said.

San Diego County child protective services has obtained a court order to take the infant away from McKinney, of Point Loma, Ganley said.

MCKinney had lost custody of two other children in 2008, the Press-Enterprise is reporting.

It was not immediately clear why she lost custody of her other children.

Riverside County CPS will conduct an investigation, Ganley said.

No arrests have been made in the case.

The dogs are being euthanized.

I have never even had any nightmares this horrid.

I don't know what to say here, as to what should happen to those responsible. Perhaps the same, worse than what happened to the poor child. The child will now need to live his entire life without life knowing that this is the only on he may get.

Again, some people just shouldn't simply be allowed to have children. You need to be able to raise children before you are allowed to give birth.

This is horrid..

I would also ask what the hell a person who lives in an apartment, is doing with 2 Pitbulls ffs... those dogs need lots of space

Tbh its not the dogs fault.
Well of course we don't know fully. but really how would you know? do you understand dog psychology? the dogs should be euthanize as well, i don't care about those who don't care, be they now whatever. I don't think that any sentient animal may not recognize this, the baby was much weaker, obviously the baby was not going to hurt the pitts. And even so the owner of the pitts is just as responsible.

Fair enough, all dogs can be aggressive, however those dogs should be banned. Seems to be the in-thing now when driving through kulid areas in Cape Town that pitbulls make you look cool.

They also provide good protection too, (believe me), my one has prevented 3 break in's already, chased two men away at a time, without my Pitt i might have been seriously injured, i would have certainly had a few things stolen. I was in my house when i saw them running and throwing. It's a difficult one. Another OT thing is that a great deal of these dogs are used for dog fights too. Perhaps one solution would be to not allow people with children in their households to have pitts. Staffies are quite kinder i hear, same protection, i've got family who have staffies, and they are always kind to greet me, they could also be extremely fierce but only if seriously provoked or if you aren't friends with the owner, they are very good at differentiating friends from strangers.

mmmm, I have a staffie - useless watchdog, would probably welcome a burglar hoping they get a bit of play time. However, if someone threatened me, would be a totally different story, that said someone who threatens u I can understand, but a baby?

Bull terriers are awesome with kids. I grew up around them and they're some of the most awesome dogs you get - super loving and very good watchdogs.

I'm sorry but if a dog is unprovoked and it eats a baby then it needs to euthanized. Aren't Pitt bulls baned in a bunch of US states?
