Yes it is. If you aren't a danger to people on the roads at a particular level of alcohol concentration then you shouldn't face jailtime for it. It isn't fair.I think the issue isn't the accidents involving different levels of alcohol.
Drinking is not the only source of alcohol on the planet so the law does a poor job of addressing this. What this law does is encourage people not to take any medication for fear that they might be arrested as a result. I know I would start thinking twice about taking things like cough syrup or using mouthwash. Any law that creates that sort of scenario is really poorly thought out. What the minister is trying to do is motivate drivers to not drink at all.
and they should face the consequences for that. The law is already in place to ensure that they do.When you go to a party and you know that you can have some alcohol (just under 0.05), many people are going to make the mistake of drinking a little more and thus become illegal.
There are a few placers that have breathalizers available. It is a useful tool I suppose. Not many people know how much really constitutes 0.05 and I've never seen any breathalizer kits at the parties I've been to. That's why she said "people don't know their own limits".
Oh you will still make mistakes, it just may not be with alcoholic beverages. Luckily when you do make that mistake and the police unfairly arrest you you can get a big fat payout and pay off your house and/or car at the taxpayers' expense. Yay government! Making poorly thought out laws since time immemorial! But if you accept the fact that you may not have ANY alcohol in your blood, you won't drink and you won't make any mistakes.
