Plasma TV nightmare

@NBS - I'm very worried. I'm going to ask for a loan unit because I can't be without a TV for an entire month. I should've bought that Sony 46-inch LCD instead

You should try it. If you really cant, then renting a tv until you know the outcome of your tv is a better option. Unless youre looking for an excuse to buy a new tv..

Where was it reported? With Samsung, or with their warranty/repair agents?

You have to call Samsung first for them to log a call, they then call the repair agents with the ref number, the Repair agents then calls you after a day or two to come and collect the TV (at some miracle you have to make sure you are home at the random time they call you as they cannot tell you when they will arrive)
You can’t call the Repair agents directly without calling Samsung (a call needs to be logged)

20110322 11:51 - Received a call from the Samsung PS who informed that the set needs to go in for repairs. Awaiting call from service agents.

I would take photo's of everything so you don't get a buggered set back.

This sounds very similar to the 50" plasma sammy I first bought, crap loads of green every where and then red then green and purple :( Suffice to say I went with the sammy lcd.
Seems like these plasmas are giving quite a few problems to people..

Pity, since plasma actually suited your needs better.

Let's not forget to mention all the LCDs that have their own issues, like haemophilic back-light bleed, before this becomes one sided.

Also, remember the nature of electronics, nakedpeanut. :)

Implied warranty of quality
56. (1) In any transaction or agreement pertaining to the supply of goods to a
consumer there is an implied provision that the producer or importer, the distributor and
the retailer each warrant that the goods comply with the requirements and standards
contemplated in section 55, except to the extent that those goods have been altered
contrary to the instructions, or after leaving the control, of the producer or importer, a
distributor or the retailer, as the case may be.
(2) Within six months after the delivery of any goods to a consumer, the consumer
may return the goods to the supplier, without penalty and at the supplier’s risk and
expense, if the goods fail to satisfy the requirements and standards contemplated in
section 55, and the supplier must, at the direction of the consumer, either—
(a) repair or replace the failed, unsafe or defective goods; or
(b) refund to the consumer the price paid by the consumer, for the goods.
(3) If a supplier repairs any particular goods or any component of any such goods, and
within three months after that repair, the failure, defect or unsafe feature has not been
remedied, or a further failure, defect or unsafe feature is discovered, the supplier must—
(a) replace the goods; or
(b) refund to the consumer the price paid by the consumer for the goods.

I assume this means I can go to Makro next weekend and demand a new TV or a refund? About time these companies stopped selling poor quality products.

That looks like something from the CPA - it won't apply to your purchase as it was before 1 April

I'm still not convinced on this point. Warranties extend over the new act implementation date. Unless, they need a clean start, however, I still need to confirm if items under warranty bought prior to the act, are then covered by the act, as you are still a consumer in terms of the act.

Still haven't heard from Samsung or their service agents. Hellopeter might make a difference...

Logged a complaint on HP and received calls from Samsung and their repair agents. TV will be collected tomorrow.
Why do these companies wait for public complaints before attending to a customer? They've lost me, my family and my friends as customers.

Sounds like your repair agents are crap. They're giving Samsung a poor name.

Personally I would have just contacted the repair agents myself.

Nope - I've had similar experiences with Samsung - took ages to get them to refund me on a home theater... bloody thing didn't work properly with a PS3, constant HDMI handshake issues where I had to turn on and off the system.... their solution was to not use my PS3 with the home theater, the whole reason I bought it.

Took ages to get to someone high enough to accept it as a fault and refund me. Think I had about five complaints on hellopeter until someone with half a brain accepted it as a known fault with the system.

The specific system sold for R8,500 - I saw it about a year later for R3,000 in stores, searched for the system in google, and discovered 1000's of reports on the AV receiver failing just out of warranty, was glad to be rid of that.

Also had to change my Samsung LCD three times in a row for dead pixels... fortunately, that was painless as I insisted Game exchange it on the spot.
