Plasma TV nightmare

Indeed.

And SD channels are also much better over HDMI.

Especially on plasma... :D

I haven't watched any SD channels since I got the TV back, and I don't plan to :D

The set has almost zero retention now. The only time I saw it this weekend was after the soccer matches and F1, and even then it was for no more than 5 seconds.

Happy ending indeed.

I'm getting my PS50C430 (end of this month) I deposited from Cats. I hope I find it in order. I must test drive it there at the shop to make sure I'm not taking a dud home.

To Postman, with all the respect, but using sales figures to prove that the brand is good quality is completely wrong. All that proofs is, that there are a lot of people that they don't know, don't want or usually most of the time they can not afford a better brand. I can not care less how many TVs Samsung sold to OZs, China or USA what i care is what the real experts got to say. And i'm not talking about Cnet "experts" or Samsung own site. And unfortunately the measurements are not in Samsung favor. You know, your argument is like saying the best car in the world is Volkswagen because they are the biggest car manufacturer. Samsung always was and i believe in the near future will still be a mid range from quality perspective electronics producer for mass market. Like VW by the way as well and i personally wouldn't touch both. And you know what probably in not that far in the future some chines car maker and chines electronic manufacturer will be a number one only because they manage to sell 30 million cars in China or India. But does that mean that they are the best?
Otherwise agree with you about plasma>lcd but that is for another thread :)

Yeah I understand, the point is though why are so many people buying Samsung over LG and Sony when they are all similarly priced? There is obviously something about them winning people over - perhaps the picture quality? I mean all are in the same price bracket these days, so not quite sure what you're comparing Samsung to, perhaps comparing Samsung/LG/Sony to Panasonic?

Samsung to Sony or Panasonic. From my experience Sony is more expensive then Samsung/LG. And i'm talking for international prices not about our overpriced crap. Dono where are you getting that, that there are equally priced. I was referring to companies like NEC, Iiyama, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Sharp, Toshiba all of them are making great quality monitors and TVs but don't sell Samsung quantities. And yes comparing Samsung to Pioneer for example would you say that Samsung has a better picture then Pioneer or Pana even that now one does not make plasmas anymore and the other does not sell Samsung quantities?

I was commenting on TVs at the same price point in SA - Samsung, LG and Sony. Panasonic (and NEC, Iiyama, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Sharp, Toshiba) tend to obviously be in another league.

I think it boils down to personal taste and history with a brand. I for one had samsung , great monitor but replaced it with a lg monitor another great buy from my experience

Is this the same problem like the plasma at Mcdonalds Woodmead is showing? I was watching the soccer for a few minutes the other day and it is pretty bad

Almost 3 months after the panel was replaced I'm back to square one with my Samsung Plasma, which is 7 months old. I'm going to politely ask Samsung for a replacement.

Hell man that's disappointing. Let us know how accomadating they are with that request for a replacement set.

They probably going to want another stab at trying to fix it!!!

Had my PS51D550 picked up on Tuesday as I was not getting sound over HDMI. I've been advised that they are waiting for a main board from Samsung and they have no idea when it will arrive. Had the TV for 5 weeks and at first I thought my Logik DV9100HD was faulty. Can I insist that they replace the TV?

At 5 weeks they'll be under no obligation to replace the set. You could try and appeal to their customer service conscience.

Will see what they say when they call again. As far as I'm conserned, it was an out of the box failure. At first I thought it was the Logik player which I eventually managed to replace. Had the same problem with the new Logik unit which I took back to the store to have tested.

Doesnt the CPA state that the customer chooses refund, repair or replace within six months if the product breaks?

Ok here is the low down

Samsung put bad capacitors in all tv's from year 2004-2008, google "bad caps" and see for yourself.

They KNOW about the problem, they DID NOT issue a recall.

How did i find this out?Cos my tv also packed up.Opened up my tv last night and there it was ,leaky bulging capacitor..The fix? R10 Capacitor

Never buying samsung ever again...
