Hi All.

I would like to setup a training room with 3-4 stations max to connect to a single "server" type arrangement.

The software is hellish expensive and so are the hardware requirements. ie Xeon, Quadro K5/6000 card. 32gb Ram etc

This is for Oil and gas simulations and Windows based.

Is it at all possible to setup so that instead of 1 computer per desk, the operators could "share " the resources of the software running on a single high end computer BUT have there own individual instances of the software working at their "own" stations?.

any guidance most appreciated.

thanks.

Yes you can share server resources between workstations but said server must have 1 CAL per user that needs access to the server. Also, the user software must support this setup and would likely need to be licensed accordingly.

I don't think there's realy a cheap path for what you want to do. On the hardware side you could skimp but within limits as you have to stay within the requirements of the software.
You could try going with a i7, just do you homework and pick a board that has server drivers. For thin clients you can use the Intel compute stick. Raspberry Pi 2 B+ would be an even cheaper thin client but Windows iot core doesn't have rdp although i suspect there will be a vnc client for it pretty soon.
