Plato in hot water over immigrant comments

You know anyone who chooses to semigrate to the cape flats over the many other areas? I don't, not a single soul.

People that don't have a choice and can't afford any better. Nobody lives in crap areas because they want to.

If you move all the way from Gauteng to the Western Cape in search of a better life, and you end up in the cape flats, you're doing it wrong. Also, you're a dumbass.

Point being, the vast majority of semigrants most likely avoid gangland and headlines such as "murder capital of ZA" simply won't ring true to them. One also does not simply move into the cape flats even if you can't afford something better, those murderous gangs happen to be territorial too ...

Why Gauteng? Eastern Cape and the Free state are right there.

It happens all the time. People go to the big cities in search of a job, no qualifications. Even a domestic or casual labourer will do... They can only afford to live in Nyanga or something, or worse a squatter camp.

Odds are still they won't be in proper gangland, or they won't be there for long in any event. Either forced out or carried out in a body bag.

Nyanga or something, or worse a squatter camp
Eh? Does not compute, Nyanga is a squatter camp, one of the worst.

Why are you focusing on gangland? Those areas are still dangerous and full of criminals, even if they're not gangsters.

As for Nyanga being a squatter camp. Meh, don't expect a Vaalie to know that. I thought it was a township. :X3:

Because if you remove gangland from the crime stats Cape Town is no longer even in the top 3 murder cities in the country, that's how skewed it is.

Township = squatter camp, you'd be hard pressed to notice a difference between the two, one is just a euphemism of the other.

They're still dangerous areas. Unless you want to tell me the average guy in non-gangland township is just as likely to get murdered as a guy in the suburbs is.

The second part is just wrong. Townships run the gamut from shacks and RDP houses to double storey houses and shopping centres.

Come to Soweto (more specifically Diepkloof) and say that.

No he's just as likely to get murdered as a guy in Soweto, which nullifies the "Cape Town murder capital" headline.

Which is still non-negligible. The greater Jhb area isn't far behind.
Meh, TIA

btw do you know of any "township" that doesn't have a high number of shacks as well? that's why they're all squatter camps to me, they all have shacks, whether it is exclusively shacks or a mix of shacks and RDP make very little difference in reality

Townships have their good and bad areas like cities do. There are shacks on Soweto, but there are also parks, McDonalds, double storey houses and people driving Mercs.

There are lots of shacks in townships, but there are large areas with zero shacks too.

If that still makes them squatter camps then /shrug
