Playing Games Slowly

Man, if there is one game that has a world which feels like it is properly "alive", definitely RDR2. (KCD, Witcher 3 would be my other picks)
KCD2 definitely

I can spend hours in Kuttenberg just working in my forge and completing commissions for the guild not doing a singe quest
NPC's having their own homes, jobs and daily routines like in Bethesda RPG's make it come to life even more. It's actually nuts how deep the NPC AI go in KCD2

RDR2 NPC's may not have homes they live in, but the level of interactivity with NPC's are still impressive, especially persistent NPC's like shopkeepers

The Witcher though, it's been debated a lot, so not going to go into to deep, but it's mostly smoke and mirrors unfortunately. NPC's are just fillers you can't interact with

Yup one of the only things I hate about the game. Breaks the immersion if you just want to take things slowly and roleplay/follow traffic rules.

That plus the drivers behind you would get impatient too quickly when you've stopped and they would crash into the back of your car. GTA is guilty of that too but at least in GTA the AI is a bit better at avoiding your car.
The NPC cars have been improved a lot in patches though. When last did you play? I don't recall stuff like that happening anymore. They also drive around other stationary cars now and don't just pile up in a endless traffic jam

Before 2.3 I think.

It's definitely way better
But I am running mods, some of them does overall some things in the AI. It may be that as well
Oh yeah and I'm playing with a heavy traffic mod that probably results in more accidents and impatient drivers than normal. But I love heavy traffic in Night City. Will do another playthrough next year.

My issue is time to play - gaming, series and books are on rotation for me so I'll go months without one of the three while fitting the other two in.

The last games I actually "finished" was Ori and Prince of Persia (and Diablo IV but it's hard to define 'finish' for the ARPG genre)

I think most of us gen X are of the play slow, explore, enjoy school of gaming. I could never be like the modern younger gamer where it just seems like a pressure activity.

Suppose it counts as slowly but for example in my 2 most played games, Assetto Corsa and War Thunder, which I have several thousand of hours into

I don't do the expected thing in either, in Assetto Corsa I just drive around by myself, never online

And War Thunder I only compete so I can unlock planes to fly around in by myself

Never mind playing slow I just do what I want, I've no interest in grinding or bragging about progress, which just looking at others experiences of that makes me happy I don't participate

I've only ever 100% two games

I also don't play for achievements
There seems to be a misconception to what I said
Indeed, if one reads about making your characters eat/sleep etc to prolong the game, it's not a stretch to assume you do all the quests.

Now, stop making me jealous, I have not even had time to try either's DLC yet.

Had this very discussion with my SO last night where gaming simply is a rush to the end filled with KPIs.

That's because that's how live is these days. Results results results.

Everything is about speed instead of the yourney getting there.

I absolutely love slow paced games with long movie scenes because the yourney is great.

Take Metal gear solid as a example.

just play games that have no ending, ggwp

I'm the polar opposite, can't remember the last game I completed, if it is not a gripping story I'm out

wait ... technically that's not true I do recall the most recent game I completed was Ur-Quan Masters (i.e. Star Control), but it's a very old game, prior to that ... who knows  ... Limbo? Inside? Firewatch? Party Hard? Stardew Valley? GTA5? it's all a bit of a blur and all long ago, can't even imagine what the next game would have to give me to make me complete it, in the meantime I pretty much only play World of Warships which has no real ending and being a completionist there would be stupid as they release new unobtainable content on a monthly basis

I should play this. Know nothing about it but it looks right up my alley. Especially the second game but I guess I have to play 1 first.
Recommended, but not necessary
They do have a unique way of recapping the first game during the 2 hour prologue of the second game

Blame Twitch / YT streamers for this trend,
People see how streamers play and think that's how everyone should do it.
Forgetting streamers can't sit around and slowly take things in and enjoy it, that's not entertaining to watch.
Asmongold even discussed this a number of times on his stream, he does not stream certain games because he wants to take his time and enjoy them. He even says it would not make for an entertaining stream to watch.

Take your time, enjoy the experience. I still haven't completed red dead redemption 2 despite having hundreds of hours in it.
I just enjoy strolling around town, playing poker, blackjack, hunting in the wild. Just chilling. Similar with Cyberpunk 2077.
I clocked 570 hours in Baldur's gate 3 before finally completing a single playthrough.
Just between the two steam copies for Skyrim, have over 2000 hours, not finished, but that is more so because I keep adding mods.

People out here playing games like it's a work assignment or a competition.
Also, this obsession with everything needing to be min maxed or played with 100% most efficient walkthrough guides.
At that point, are even playing the game, or just executing a set of instructions.
