PlayStation 5 - Everything we know so far

Have consoles made themselves obsolete by becoming too close to PC's? I mean, in the past, you literally couldn't play most console games on PC. Now they are glorified AMD PC's. Perhaps you get better bang for your bucket in terms of hardware and some convenience.

Xbox One S will be able Xbox Series X titles so you won't be missing out. How can you till which console appeals to you more when there's virtually no official data on both consoles?

For me it's the games we know are coming out and those likely to be coming out.

Plus familiarity with the system (much prefer the dualshock) and now the backwards compatibility.

Not this argument again. Just get what you want, what's the point of trying to convince everyone else on the internet?

I'm probably going to get the XSX initially, because my Game's Pass sub only expires late in 2021. And also because every multi-platform game that I got this generation, I preferred to get on the Xbox for various reasons (have a 1X and Pro). Pro has been collecting dust save for the odd exclusive that comes out for it.

Will get the PS5 in a few years time when the prices come down, for the exclusives...

Couldn't care less about the hardware or design of the consoles. Its about which games are coming out for the platform. The Last Of Us: Part 2 is a Playstation exclusive. So that's why I am buying the console.

This. I would not have a Nintendo if it was not for Pokemon

I'm leaning towards the Xbox Series X on the account it seems to going down the model where you can buy into their ecosystem without getting a console

It's only you xbox fans that started the argument :) And I see that, besides your protestation, you too couldn't resist getting your pro Xbox feelings in....

Based on all the preliminary reports, the next gen consoles are going to be very similar to each other. And if any has an advantage, it will not be visible to the human eye.

Be more for those sites with all the scientific hardware tests loved by some.

So it is going to boil down to games. And should Xbox come up with some cracker exclusives that I want to play, I will get the xbox as well. Until then, the PS5 is my baby.

Everything out there is speculation and guess work, let's hold our horses until Sony reveal the console then we can all lose our minds arguing over who has the bigger compute units

Literally no one cares about that. Its about the exclusive games. As I mentioned earlier, if the PS5 ran on a rotten potato; I don't care. Can it play the games I am interested in? If yes, then that's all there is to know.

As @Splinter mentioned; if the Xbox Series X has exclusives that I want to play (Thinking Forza 8 ) then I will get that too.

So assuming it's using the same custom RDNA2 GPU (I checked, seems it does), this is going to be slower than the Series X by quite a bit considering the Series X is [email protected]. That's not sounding good.

As well as the CPU which, again, will probably be a custom layout similar to the Series X of what's basically an R7 3700 but is slower than the Series X's at 8 x 3.8GHz or 16 x 3.6GHz with SMT. I'm going to assume the PS5 will also have SMT otherwise the Series X is going to smash it further in CPU too despite the already slower clock.

Also, more official news from Digital Foundry.
