HI EVERYONE :-)

I'm new to the forum so this is my first post so here goes:

I need a help with selecting an ISP. We are currently with Afrihost (1MB uncapped) and line with Telkom. Our internet is forever given us issues and is never stable and always so slow (CANT EVEN LOAD YOUTUBE PROPERLY). Right now I'm not sure what the problem is, I stay in Mondeor and I don't think the connection here is too good. I'm only looking at 4MB uncapped packages.

I've been searching around and was thinking of moving to MWEB (4MB uncapped + line for R449pm) and then paying Telkom just for our calls package (Anytime free landline calls). So all together it comes to R800.

If I choose the same 4MB uncapped with telkom it comes to R898 all inclusive with calls.

Looking around at other ISP's but MWEB seems to be the cheapest that I have found for uncapped 4MB adsl. I just want something that's relatively fast and reliable.

Should I just settle on MWEB? They say they will take two weeks to migrate the line from Telkom so will have to wait. I've read some reviews on this forum about MWEB and don't know what to believe coz many people are complaining that it is really slow and they moved over to someone else.

ANY SUGGESTIONS OR THOUGHTS WOULD BE APPRECIATED! HAVE TO MAKE A DECISION BEFORE THE NEW MONTH!

AND ALSO IF ANYONE HAS TELKOM UNCAPPPED 4MB PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW IT IS? MAYBE IS SHUD JUST UPGRADE AND STAY WITH THEM I DON'T KNOW :-(

THANK YOU FOR YOU HELP!

Hi MWEB Guy,

Thank you for your reply..If I do a trial, I still need to wait two weeks to migrate my line to MWEB right? Coz I still have a 1MB Telkom line?

Hop 2 of 467ms is way too high, that looks like exchange congestion to me.

I've been told that our exchange is in Robertsham, which is more than 5KM away from me...does that mean no matter what ISP I have or even if my line changes to 4MB it will still be slow just because of the distance?

Unfortunately, yes.

That sucks :-( What are my other options? Should I just stay with Telkom instead of migrating my line and ask for 4MB uncapped? Also what's the difference with receiving 4MB uncapped from Telkom versus any other 4MB uncapped ISP?

And then in that 7 days it flies and afterwards its shaped to ****. Do you guys really still catch people out that trick?

Keep the line at telkom

only move uncapped account around

Thanks Abroseg1/Crawler

Has any of u had experience with Telkom 4MB uncapped? Is it any good?

I had the 2MB uncapped from Telkom, and due to new and what I think are extreme shaping/throttling policies as of late, they are not good at all. Internet will only be usable from midnight till 6AM. During the day it was rubbish. And when you get from work and want to use it from 5-midnight, it will be rubbish.

I was in the same boat a month ago, let me share my thoughts.

1. Dont bundle your DSL line with any package before testing the overall performance of your line for at least one month.

2. I realize that Mweb is the cheapest, BUT if you are going to do anything more than 100gb (+-3gb per day) on your 4mb line, rather look elsewhere. They throttle you @ 10% of the total line speed for the duration of the month, meaning you will be stuck with a 0.5mb line. :wtf:

3. From what I understand there is a trend for ISP's to shape the Home uncapped service offerings to death lately. It might be a very good idea to rather consider a 2 mb Business line, as you will be able to actually use the line. Another option would be to look at capped options, depending on your usage.

Tman I sent u a PM..

What is the difference between a business and home line? And if it's 2MB wouldn't it be pretty slow?

Wow really :-0

Who are u currently with right now?

With Crystal Web for the 2nd (and last) month now. But the internet is horrible. Really it is. They blame my line. Yet other ISPs accounts work just fine. So am moving again. My next step will probably be a 1MB Axxess business uncapped account.
