Use your SSD to install and run your Windows & applications, store your data on an external HDD, for the additional R300 you could easily get a casing to convert the HDD you take out of the laptop into an external HDD. For apps, 128GB is usually quite sufficient.

When I was looking to buy a laptop I noted down the specs I wanted and the max price I was prepared to pay and the various companies I would consider. I then read up on the various laptops to find out what their short comings might be and if I could live with it.

I ended up buying a Lenovo Ideapad Y580 about 3 years ago and I'm still happy with it. The other laptops with the same specs cost a few thousand ZAR more and I wasn't prepared to spend unnecessary money just for a more popular brand. At work we only use Lenovo laptops (Thinkpad) and we don't have any problems with them.
