I got windows 7 , 64 bits.

I need to setup a connection like this.

Make new network connection.
Connect directly to another computer [not via router or wireless.]
direct = serial port , 9 pin connection.
when choosing device, choose com port 1.

This is where I struggle. It was possible before on older software, I don't get it right.

Why on earth would you need to connect via serial port? You want to play some Doom?

Don't both PC's have ethernet ports?

What is the purpose of the connection? I haven't set up a serial network since the 90's and I don't think I've ever set one up in Windows, all I remember was it was a nightmare in DOS.

The other is a apparatus, with only a comm port. I use to do this connection with my old computer, now, with the win 7 computer I struggle and needs help.

Most places that need to do something like this keep an old pc with XP on just for this purpose. Maybe run XP in a VM to see if that works?
