Coming from Android I find the iOs notification system confusing, I have to swipe down to open Notification Center but then often I additioanlly need to swipe up to see them and no status bar notification icons?

Also on android say with a Whatsapp message you could expand the notification to read it but that doesn't seem to be possible with iOs. I've set all my messaging and email apps to persistent banner but that doesn't seem to help anything they seem to randomly just disappear.

Android notifications are so simple, swipe down and there they are until you open them or swipe them away, nothing else to it.

I have the same issue with iOS notifications - I found Android more simple . You'll have to get a die hard fan .

@epah Please assist

I hide all my notifications because I dont want people reading my business, I check my notifications on my watch. You need someone who has been through IOS settings in and out.

@Dolby Please just assist
Queenie, please go troll somewhere else, mkay?

It seems there are tons of notifications ... and different types ... and almost info overload .

Basically all I want to be able to do is to swipe down and immediately see all the notifications that I have not opened or cleared, simple as that. It must be possible.

Go to settings - notifications- then click on stack.

edit: you will need to swipe up and not down to see all your notifications.

To expand the message, long press. This let's you read, without sending read receipts. You can also listen to voicenotes this way. You can even reply in-line when doing this.

If there are multiple, in stacked view, just a quick tap to expand all.

Notifications are in the Lock Screen. You can access them with a small swipe up from the bottom of the screen, and tapping on the notification will open the app it’s from. Tapping and holding the notification allows you to view the notification and, depending on the app, respond from there.

A full swipe up on the Lock Screen unlocks the phone, and I suspect you having to swipe down first is ‘cos the phone’s unlocked.

If you make the Banner Style Persistent it looks like the only way you can remove the banner is by opening the notification, you can’t swipe it away?

That was my experience making my message notifications persistent when one popped Up while I was using the phone it refused to swipe away it would only be removed if I open the notification.

Haven’t used persistent in years and don’t understand why anyone would.

Normal ones you just swipe away, I would assume it’s the same.

Or swipe down for actions.

As for messages not showing it’s likely because you enabled the privacy mode by turning of previews.

You can also choose to Stack of List notifications which will help your Lock Screen woes and then you can also configure which ones should disappear “down under” or remain on top.

What’s deeply lacking in iOS is syncing notification settings across platforms and also having a global default setting.

Is there a reason you’re making the notification persistent?

I thought that might help to get Android style notifications but it's pointless in that regard because it blocks the screen until you open it.

So with WhatsApp for instance you can 'pull down' on the notification when it comes in, and then get a bigger bubble with reply options.
When you see a WhatsApp notification from notification center, you can long press on it and reply like that without having to go to the app.

I noticed that, very handy but doing that confuses WhatsApp and FB messenger and despite showing your reply will still mark the message as unread, pretty annoying having to reopen each replied to message to have them marked read.
