Please help me understand iOs notifications

It's by design.

The whole idea is that you can "peek" without telling the app it's been read.
What's the point of that considering my point was you've now replied to the message so why leave it marked unread when it's obvious to all and sundry you clearly have read it?

Typing this on Apple Magic Keyboard over Bluetooth and the shift work just fine.

As well as selecting text with Shift + Arrows.

This on a phone or iPad?

If it's on a phone I would need to ask who the hell does that and need to test it.

If it's on iPad that has always worked for me, but I have only used it with official Apple keyboard.

Let me go try it quick.
On an iPhone, I needed to move a lot of text between 2 apps and input some text in the receiving app.
Using a magnetic mount to hold the phone up like a monitor it actually works surprisingly well.

Yeah that part of it is a little bit weird, but likely has something to do with the “peek” interaction to the content and WhatsApp not updating it after.

I was using a non-Apple BT kb so maybe that was the hiccup

Suspect it's the keyboard then not playing along as it worked no problem for me now on the phone.

Aaah this is where the ecosystem and the cloud is king because I can't think of a single App where I couldn't just do this on my MacBook or iPad instead and just have it sync across.

It's weird and a waste of time because you have to still go open the message the normal way to get rid of the unread status/badge. It would be really awesome if the peek that was replied to changed to read, then it would be a real time saver and so convenient. I've only noticed it thus far on Whatsapp and FB messenger so maybe it's a Meta related glitch.

Sure you can big guy... if you buy the App's Premium IAP ;)

Aaah so it does update when you open the app properly.

That makes sense to me then, the notification is "disconnected" from the app in that sense which is why it doesn't update the status.

Also it makes no real difference to you, only the person on the other end may be a little confused.

Aaah yes of course.

And let me guess it goes from Free to ****ing OUTRAGEOUS in one shot.

Never understood that model.
It's for Copy 'Em clipboard, R170 yearly sub, seems like a decent app, especially if you are also on Mac

It's not very disconnected from the app if it can send a reply, someone made a decision to make it like that even after replying, why I don't know.
It does make a difference to me because the unread badge remains when you open the app or even on Desktop later it's still marked as unread, so later on I'm left wondering is there an unread message or is it the one I peeked at and replied too?

Not quite understanding the use case.

You can copy and paste directly from your iPhone to MacBook without any other stuff involved.

On Mac itself I use Copyclip which has a once off price and done.

I'm with you now, didn't realise the badge doesn't update on your side.

Yet another reason WhatsApp is garbage.

Guessing that it uses API calls to the app from the lock screen and they simply didn't bother to incorporate these updates into those.

I need a quick access clipboard on the iPhone, to send preconfigured info and replies.
Copy 'Em clipboard has a keyboard so I can easily paste copies into Copy 'Em and access my saved copy list via the globe icon on the iPhone keyboard switcher, it's a cool app.

If I install a previously installed app on my iphone does the old app data/settings get restored like Android does?
Apart from a full phone iCloud restore does any app data get saved to icloud for future restore?

Does anyone know if this is the case?

Yes, as long as you're backing up to iCloud... check Settings/User/iCloud/iCloud Backup

You can see which apps are backing up to iCloud by tapping Show All under Apps Using iCloud at Settings/User/iCloud

IIRC apps will notify you if you'll be deleting the app as well as app data when you delete them, so there is that too.
