hey guys

so the psu on my dads rig blew Procase 500w (if i plug the psu into the wall socket & turn it on it sounds like a fire cracker) so i bought a CM 550w today..he has an E6700 stock cooler/7900GT stock cooler & an intel bad axe mobo/2x1gb ram/2xdvd writers/2x320gb in raid 0..some fans..& a wireless card now the problem is after connecting everything..when i hit the power button nothing happens (fans don't spin, cpu fan included)! everything is connected properly, there is only 1 green light next to the 24pin power that lights up (stays on)..oh & the power led lights up for a few seconds then switches off (when i switch the psu off & back on at the back..thats what happens)

what i have done so far:
taken out the ram/gpu/wireless card/HDD & dvd drives..& nothing

took out the battery for 30min..nothing

i think the mobo is gone..but would just like to be 100% sure..anybody??

Have you reseated the CPU/RAM. Are all the power cables properly secured? If you don't come right, PM Juggy; he's just around the corner from you and may assist you with testing :)

lol, thanks guys. Cape Town isn't that small that everything is just around the corner from everything;)

Personally I think the PSU popped the mobo.

Personally I think the PSU popped the mobo.

That's bad news, for sure :(

Hard drives might be OK - the data on these will be OK, and easily recoverable.

lol @ juggy do you maybe have a 775 mobo for me to test with?? otherwise i will just buy a G31 to test with..i hope the cpu is still alive!

Long shot, but a few techies swear by it:

Remove the motherbaord from the case and disconnect/remove all memory, CPU, CMOS battery, etc - place it on a sheet of tinfoil for half an hour or so, then connect up everything again: CMOS battery, CPU, one memory module only, HDD, graphics card and PSU - test-boot with the motherboard outside the case and see what happens.

NOTE: when you test-boot, make sure that the mobo is not placed on anything metallic - use an ant-static mat, cardboard box or plan wood worksurface.

Also check all the capacitor heads to see if any have popped/bulged.

i bought a cheap G31 mobo..& found that old mobo is stuffed & gpu which i tested in my rig..works for 2-3minutes then the screen goes black every few seconds! luckily the mobo has on board vga..so its up & running! cpu/ram/wifi card is fine!
