Hey guys i really got a big problem with my geforce 8600GT. only had it for over 1 year now. i've been trying to solve this problem for such a long time i really want to get back to playin my game. All of a sudden one day when i switched on my pc the display just went to a pink colour, I can't change it back to normal,it is certainly the graphics card and not the monitor. it seems i've lost the green colour setting for my display on my pc. just downloaded the latest driver from nvidia website few days ago aswell. The 8600GT has never been overclocked and is not have any burnt out marks on. now i'm really peeved off with nvidia products reliabilty

It's the monitor without a doubt. Graphics cards don't do that. I had the same problem. If the screen is pink even in the BIOS, you know it's the screen because your graphics card isn't active pre-windows.

1. I believe the 8600gt is DVI. If your screen is VGA and you're using a DVI-VGA converter, ensure that all the screws are tightened and de-dust it bit.

2. Check for ruptures in your screen cable. Bends and wire-burns could also cause this.

3. Last of all, bend, twist and fiddle with the screen cable and where it's plugged in at both ends. Might sound like a redneck fix but it's the only way I keep my screen displaying normal colours (in all probability something wrong with the wire inside). If your screen cable has a removable plug on both ends, just replace the cable.

Goodluck.

thanks for the input, but i don't get it? when i connect the vga cable to my onboard graphics card it works fine but connect it back to the 8600GT and bam its the pink colour display again. by the way the 8600 does have both vga and dvi support so i dont use any dvi to vga converter that u mentioned. all cables in perfect condition from what i can tell. so what do you think....

buy an ATI.

Nvidia's cards arent as reliable as they used to be.

good one; i'm throwing away my ****ty ati on monday, because it came out of the factory with an inherint issue which. so far the 4850 had more issues overall vs the 8800gt i have in my other box.

then again this nv vs ati could just be what pick you get and if its a bad, good or zomg one right ? ;)

maldek, did you check the socket or card for dirt ?, could be the vram going...

nearly 30% of windows Vista crashes were due to nvidia cards ( cause, poor driver coding, poor driver support ). not to mention that nvidia had to recall almost half the laptops released last year because of faulty chip designs ( they still sitting with lawsuits, and many consumers suffered ). then there is the 9 series flop last year where it was discovered they just released the old 8 series with a new name, and it cost them dearly when the ATI 4 series were relased, but worst of all they blamed the breaking of full screen video mirror on windows vista, it has been permanently discontinued now ....

its not case of nv vs ati. its a case of they used to be a good company releasing great products. but those days are over, they now release one good card a year if that, they care only about benchmarks, not about making stable products or giving proper driver support. they were once king of the hill and no one not even ati could touch them, now they are barely neck to neck with ati. and the 4890 was just released ...

not like the 4 series was without its hardware issues or software. many of the initial batches's powerplay was wrongly implemented and screwed a lot of cutomers. looking over too how many drivers packages were released and just after it a quick hot fix lol. sure nv was top for long time, they both worked and bought that spot, still overall they like intel are what you pay. i don't disagree that the 9 and 5 series was really lacking, but then again one should not just go and buy when it out, about and new do one ?, in most cases both for nv and ati its always better to wait for the rebranded revision cards...

It could be the physical connection, try use the DVI port- it it works OK, then it is the VGA port that's buggered. Also try clean the VGA port and check for any obvious physical faults on the VGA port

so guys if i get an ATI card from now on. which do u recommend is good or better than my 8600GT currently on the market? im not spending more than 1 grand

Theres dust on the graphics card all over, i doubt this could cause this colour display problem,do you guys clean yours frequently

If you live in a humid area dust can be a bad problem. With high humidity the dust can become a moist paste inside a pc and this could short pins on chips. See it a lot here on the east coast.

ok i just cleaned off the dust on the 8600GT and still have same problem. have any other ideas? i was searching all over the internet and no one mentions similar problems to what i'm going through with this graphics card which sounds like an uncommon thing

is it instant pink directly from powerup ?, or in bios ?, could always be the part that connects with the dvi port.

Sorry for all you ATI fanbois but my sons pc also goes a lovely shade of pink and he has an ATI card ....

It's the VGA connector on his monitor though and not his Gfx card .... He twists the cable a bit and plugs it in and the colours back to normal .. until the case gets moved.

Have you tried using another monitor to see if the same thing happens?

ps. I prefer ATi to Nvidia too :D

when i start the pc it doesn't even show the bios screen anymore. it just skips it then goes to the desktop, the graphics card looks in perfect shape, it has been inspected by a technician at a pc shop recently

well then you will have to try either F2 or del as it comes on to see which one takes you to bios ;)

necunu it doesn't show anything at start up.its just a blank screen.not even the welcome screen shows anymore like it used to back when the graphics card was working
