Hi Gents and Ladies,

I currently have a 20 ADSL(Not VDSL) line and its working like a charm with VERY little issues.

My line is currently managed by Axxess and im on a 400Gb Fat Pipe.

My issue,

This morning i logged a ticket with Axxess to upgrade my line to 40Mb VDSL. About 2 hours later i received a mail from a tech with the following:

Hi Mark,

This is in response to ticket: Upgrade Service Change For: 021979****, created on 2016-08-25 06:02:47
Hi There As per your request I had a look at your line and saw that your SNR is to low for 40 meg. It is at 7.6 dB now and anything higher and the line will be unstable or drop

I don't understand this. Not so long ago i had Telkom out at my house to come and fix the connections in my house. When the dude was done he tested my line and from the app he was using i was told that im lucky with the tests he's done as they were excellent for full 40Mb VDSL. I was also told that it is due to the fact that im only 700m from our exchange/box down the road. Ive had 20Mb ADSL for almost 4 months now and apart from ASSIA that was giving me hassles which i have in the meantime gotten permanently removed from my profile i have not had a days issue with my current setup so im not sure i understand what Axxess techie is on about. See below my current line stats.

20Mbps DSL Line
My Downloading Status:

Noise Level

5.3 dB

Signal To Noise

14.7 dB

My Uploading Status:

Upload Speed

Anyone shed some light if this is indeed the true and im buggered for 40Mb VDSL?

Thanks in advance
Mark

My suggestion is to get a VDSL router and upgrade to VDSL, this would improve your SNR and then you should be able to upgrade to 40mb.

Tx Krust!!

I've plugged in my new VDSL router although I'm still on 20 ADSL(I have requested to move me to 20 VDSL) I see that the stats have now changed to the following. In your view is this good? VDSL good!?

Rather check your stats on the modem itself instead of through Axxess.

Just a quick guess here your SNR should go up to around 30 and lets assume the noise level is what Axxess calls attenuation and yours is amazing, once you get switched over to 20Mbps VDSL I can't imagine they will deny you 40Mbps with those stats.

Hi All,

Tx for the help. I replaced my modem with a proper VDSL modem and got Axxess to change my 20mb to VDSL. Made a huge difference to my stats to such a level that 40mb VDSL has been activated and I'm syncing at 40mb. I however see that my Axxess account still register at 20mb. Axxess Lady?

Great to hear that your line is running fine, we will update the line speed on our side for you.
