Please, I need a completer WiMax Design, and deployments infrastructure with 3G. I'm in Cameroon and I have been asked to build up a project of a WISP using wimax and 3G technology. Check on the cost, every component for setting up the ISP from Base station components, Backhaul, billing, Qos, AAA, GW, etc. Please can anyone help me out? It's my first of such project. Thanks. Peter
 
Hmm this seems like a huge project and I doubt you will get any reply on this forum for such a complicated and long project. I dont understand how you managed to secure such a big project if you dont even know where to start or know what your options is. There is usually allot of planning and research that needs to get done before you even look at taking on something of this magnitude. This project probably runs in the millions and there is probably big players involved. If I were you I would urgently look at hiring a project manager and look for a techy that's a wizard with LTE/WIMAX/3G and they will be charging a insane amount for their services if you manage to find anyone that's willing to assist you.

All I can say is you laid the bed now you must sleep in it, I hope you can use some of the info here to make a better business decisions in the future and not just be driven by greed.

Yeah, your right. Infact, I was called for an interview and after the interview, was asked to write down the project, some sort of test to see what I can do. So I really have to present something, and the given time frame is very short (Monday) so I have very little time. I know it's very complex but I need something that we can say, yeah that's an i start.
 
I've been involved in a few projects like this. Its far from a simple exercise and you will need a team of people to achieve this.

You certainly going to be spending many millions of dollars in order to build anything more than a tiny demo network.

mpn20, don't take this personally, I'm not trying to insult you. Simply pointing this out in simple terms.

Its clear that you're out of your depth. Either you don't understand the complexity behind the solution you've been asked to draw up, or the person that asked you for it hasn't got a clue what they're asking for.

This sort of project takes months to develop, and millions of dollars just to plan. No two solutions are the same.
There isn't a "template" mobile network design that can just be dusted off and used repeatedly.
Even within the same company, people will disagree on the "correct" way to design a mobile network.

Don't misrepresent yourself to them. Do the best that you can do on your own, at least that's an honest picture of your abilities and you won't end up digging yourself into a hole.
 
Daffy, I aggree with you. I kind of know the magnitude of the project. I am just trying to do the best of what I can and give them. Infact, the interviewed me and at the end since I have no professional experience, they gave it to me as a homework and the time frame is too short that I even asked myself if they knew what they had given me as work. Anyway, I just accepted being on the side of someone who is in need of a job. That's mostly the way those with no experience are treated here in Cameroon and even in some countries in Africa.

Your predicament is like them saying they want a lion tamer, and you desperately trying to show them that you can be a lion tamer. If you succeed in making them believe that, then they will happily set you amongst the lions. And you wont tame them, because you really know nothing about lions at all. They will eat you.

Im amazed that you seem to want to persevere with this honestly. You are not going to find a detailed plan on rolling out a wimax network on an internet forum. Are you applying to actually be the project manager of this project?? Or are you applying for a junior roll within the larger organisation? If this is the latter, you could hazzard an attempt at keeping your plan high-level

ie. Initation / Planning / Implementation / Closeout

What goes into each of those areas for this kind of project? Feasibility study, environment scanning, budgeting, rfp to contractors, rfp selection, project scoping, project team formation, technical design of solution, design review, design approval, procurement of equipment, delivery to sites, assembly, testing, go-live, documentation, support update, review session, project sign-off, handover to support.

I have to agree with the guys above- it is a HUGE undertaking requiring a competent team, not one individual. The first thing you should look to do is set up a scoping of objectives to determine what is that you are wanting to achieve, from there you will need to set up an initial investigation in to:
the legal framework in Cameroon
the spectrum allocation
regualtory bodies and how long they tend to take to make decisions for everything from environmental impact, to digging up roads, consumer complaints, etc
relevant technologies
future-proofing
geographic and topographic considerations
income vs expense vs capital (repayment periods etc)
to name a few

Then you might have enough information to actually start making decisions on what to do. Here is a link or two that might help you with what you seem to be needing:

I would suggest you start engaging with the people who have employed you for this to start working on a point one in simple project management - objectives. Forget about the rest for now, that should be enough work to see if things are serious. But to be honest it sounds like another pie-in-the-sky project. If they are serious they should be happy to start the process of defining what is needed and then investigating options which will take at least a few months with a good team.

To be honest, this is the type of advice which I will bill for. Myself and some of the others on the forum will be able to draw up a fairly comprehensive network plan between us, but that will be what I consider as professional work, rather than free advise.

As for free advise, I'll offer this: study the differences and capabilities of Wimax and WCDMA. Why would you ever need both? If you already had infrastructure of both, that's one thing. For a virgin network, rather choose one, and do that one properly. Your TCO will be much less that way, and your network's capabilities should still be as good as when you have both.
 
Yeah agreed with what the above posters have said.

On one side of your request, it seems to be a high level design, but then the 2nd part of the request is almost a component level design. Normally the 1st part is done long before in order to be an information feed to the 2nd part.
Never mind that you dont seem to have a defined requirements document.

I agree that you seem to be shooting yourself in the foot and setting yourself up for a big fall.
