Please recommend a tablet

If you really don't want to import, look at this

Check this out on takealot: Blackview Tab 12 10.1" 64GB LTE Tablet - Space Grey
Not too bad price, pity about the spectrum chipset....:(

I don't own any apple products, but honestly have not seen anything that can match an apple tablet. In my view it is the only device that is ever worth calling a tablet. The other gimmicks are next to useless compared to the ipad. Sure they have some kind of use, but pretty pathetic in terms of spec and performance. Android also love resources and space, which most of them don't have.

You can get pretty close.

For Ipad price you can get this. about 10%-15% slower. It is on special often enough at around 5.9K on mi. Given the choice I would still pick this over the ipad. If you only going to focus on the budget tablet that is pretty much all you going to find. Huawei and xaomi do have low end, mid range and high end tablet. This is basically their mid contender. The problem as I mentioned before SA market sucks when it comes to tablets, selection is piss poor in general. It doesn't help that samsung likes dumping their old shyte in the african market.

Probably the best value for money locally...

The markup is still too much, it is a 2k tablet.

Importing so much easier than it used to be, it is about the same as shopping at takealot, just longer to ship, I hate getting shafted locally,

2 x of each, twice a day and you should be super.

Hey, I agree with you. We have 3 Teclast tablets here. 2 of them are the old M30 tablets that have been going strong since well before the COVID lockdown. Great machines.

However, the OP seems reluctant to go the import route, their the local suggestion...

Cleary you have never tried one of these

Only annoyance is perhaps the bezels could be a bit thicker, but given it is an 11 inch, it might end up being more bulky. Less bezel on a phone is fine, on a tablet no

It does not bother me at all. I had 2 Teclast tablets and they are not bad. But nothing close to the Xiaomi. I just love it. Screen, touch and just how fast it is to launch everything is far better.

Actually I don't know why I wasted money on the Teclast tablets. Don't get me wrong, they are good for the money.

I think I'm gonna try this one, unless someone recommends another... https://www.sunsky-online.com/p/WMC...oth-&-Dual-Band-WiFi-&-TF-Card-Network-4G.htm

Or this, honestly this if my first choice, almost half the speed of a apple entry 9th gen....You can't go wrong with the snapdragon chipset. Down side is wifi only.

it wouldn't be a bad idea if they were to add a higher end tablet to their stable, it is one of the more popular brands, so they should sell well. I wouldnt think about it twice if they were to bring out a tablet with similar specs to that of the pad 5. Likely to be slighty cheaper too. :P

What do you people use your tablets for? I have an ancient Nexus 7 tablet but it still works for the limited uses I have for it (reading books on Kindle, listening to Udemy courses and streaming media from time to time).

I like the idea of pairing a larger tablet with a keyboard and USB mouse to also have an ultraportable laptop for office-type apps, and working with Jupyter notebooks. I don't want to always pack my work laptop when I travel. But I think I may just have tech-envy..

I'm also on the Apple side of the fence...

But I have to say, Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. Dex, Android RDP App and that Pen... it's amazing how much you can get done (work-wise) with this device, and its relatively affordable (I have the WiFi only one).
