Please reduce power usage: Eskom

idjits with big salaries..watch for the return of the rolling blackouts because they didnt get their increase. they will hold this country hostage again and we will go begging for them to flip the switch to get the electricity back on..

I will reduce my power usage when the CEO's reduce their bonuses and obscene salaries. :)

And we have reduced our 'leccy usage to the point where we cannot reduce it any more.

They can get lost with their bonuses and obscene salaries.

So eskom didn't like that they didn't get the yearly increase they were looking for... time to start holding the civilians for ransom again. Amazing how just before, or during price increase reviews we start to put the system under pressure...

Eskum you should lead by:-
1) Cutting huge bonuses
2) Switching off street lights in the day
3) Stop advertising on TV and wasting money

If you do the above I am sure you will be more respected and people will listen.

No, actually it started when they got a problem at Koeberg, about two weeks ago. Before that it was just dandy.

I dunno why you guys blame Eskom for this.... it's the municipalities that have access to the lights. Not Eskom.

Hear, hear! Blame the muni's you say? Okay. I've just taken a second shot of the enormous overheads down the road that have been active since switch-on last night, and are still burning now at 3.04pm in the afternoon. There's a fine example they're setting. Course I've no doubt it will be argued they use a minimum of power compared to geysers and stoves etc. That's not the point.

How is cutting bonuses and salaries going to reduce electricity usage? New sources of power is what is required. And even that is becoming problematic for stations like Medupi. They are way behind on schedule and falling further behind all the time. And the blame for this isn't about extravagent bonuses or salaries, but rather unions who are constantly at each other's throats.

Eskom got themselves in this mess by waking up far too late.

They should not get any bonus at all let alone the exorbitant amounts they get now.

There are a few things that need to happen..

Eskom and the municipalities must crack down on illegal connections.
The Unions need to be put in their place so that Medupi and Kusile can get back on track and up and running..
Eskom and the municipalities must start actively engaging the citizens and companies on decent grid-tie systems so that it becomes advantageous to us to start generating our OWN power

I have a gas stove and a solar geyser, I just need some solar panels to run my lights etc. and I would be escum free

not entirely true... Thabo (no AIDS) Mbeki, did not give Eskom permission many years ago when Eskom wanted to start building new power stations

Eskom already knew in 1998 that we would be running out of capacity in 2007

Use bonus money to repair or help build new power stations. Or in the very least, give it back to the consumers in form of free good quality bulbs, free geyser blankets, free solar panels, etc.

I *have* reduced my usage. Eskom/Municipality meanwhile has increased my bill....to 2-3x actual usage with their "estimates". They can all go f themselves...

So the ANC fck'd it up, not the ANC cadre run parastatal. Same difference.
