I'm not sure I trust these MyBB servers. Compare my iBurst result above to my Cell-C one here:

Going by the results one would assume the latency on Cell-C is much better than on iBurst, whereas in reality, as any gamer will tell you, it is much better on iBurst. Also there seem to be a few instances where the international download speed is faster than the local download speed. :confused:

As a gamer myself, I've not had an enjoyable experience on iBurst for over a month now, maybe longer - i cant remember. I quit playing WoW because of the lack of consistency on iBurst network. The only thing that is consistent is frequent major latency issues for me. So far the the weather has been blamed, before that the tower ran out of juice, and my pm with my utid somehow got lost on the interwebs. The results that are being posted here are in line with my experience - higher latency recently on iBurst. I havent tried 8ta yet, but like i said, the tests seem to indicate that 8ta is over 100ms faster from an international perspective. In some cases its more like 200ms. This is at least tempting me to try it, because i know people who play a simple game like Starcraft (which i switched to and that seemed alot less demanding than wow) over 3G and dont have nearly the headache that I have had for the last month. The price point is also seriously attractive even taking the contract into consideration. If i get to try it out and it gives me the experience i want, its a simple choice. Even if ADSL would be better still (ironically, i had a comparatively awesome experience recently on TelkomDo 384k, ruling my PC off my problem list in the process).

But dont listen to me rant :P I'm pretty fed up atm and actively on the prowl for a better solution, which i hope i will find.

There are two networks on iBurst and one network can carry the load of both networks. One is via the west coast and is serviced with an IP transit from Telia and the other via the east coast with an IP transit from Cogent. The latency via the west coast is better and the quality of Telia is typically better than Cogent.

I see many of the speedtest servers are on simplytransit.net which have an upstream to Cogent which would be via the east coast. This would not necessarily apply to gaming servers.

As an example, the Vodafone server in Newbury and the TranceFM server in London follow different paths. The international MyBB server is on the longer fibre path and lower quality upstream. So if we provided a worse service we would look better...

As an example, try a tracert to bbc.com and cnn.com.

The latencies on 8ta's network are so good at the moment because they have a very low number of voice and data subscribers. If the number goes up, which it likely will with the current promotion, 8ta's latencies will fall inline with other 3G services.

When cell-c launched their 3G I heard nothing but praise from early adopters, mostly gamers, but now those same people do noting but complain about lag, spikes and delay.

Everyone I know in person who got cellC 3G has either returned it or sold it off to someone else because of poor quality. I also returned mine [and still got the crappy service I've come to know and love from cellC - eventually deon wired gave me the money back because cellc had just wasted over 3hrs of our time on the phone...]. I was also on telkom's 3G offering during pilot/early testing [before 8ta] -it was fantastic... then it went public and I stopped that one.

Never had any good experiences with 3G because of the load on the networks.

Why does Iburst have a incident report section on their website if it's not being used? First thing I do when experiencing bad connections is check the incident report. What a waist time.

Combined with all the accounts issues, iburst are really a bit of a mediocre company and it seems they just don't care.
