Thanks manNo, as long as it has your name on it. You obviously can't use it for proof of address.

As far as I understand they are for life. How long are these licenses valid for ?
Bookmarked.Email these guys, I have delt with them before, they cost a bit, but they send you a list of docs, and check everything and stand in the Sars que.
Print is fine. Not sure when last I received a paper bill...Does the utility bill for proof of residence need to be an original or will they accept a print from Pdf?
Will a Fibre internet account for the proof of address pass muster?Print is fine. Not sure when last I received a paper bill...
Should be fine...Will a Fibre internet account for the proof of address pass muster?
Thanks, that's very helpful.
Yeah but remember you dealing with a person at SARS... they can be difficult at times and not accept something that technically is acceptable. Thanks, that's very helpful.
That's quite a list, someone mentioned they only accept utility bills for the proof of residence, that list even mentions "Telephone account (All networks)Less than 3 months old"
Which I'm assuming means a cellphone contract account is fine, which will make this a whole lot easier?
Good points on both counts, hopefully they answer their phones.Yeah but remember you dealing with a person at SARS... they can be difficult at times and not accept something that technically is acceptable.
I would call ahead before just pitching up at a branch. My tax guy said they have stopped walk in customers for some reason, might just be the PE branch tho. Rather be safe than sorry.
Good points on both counts, hopefully they answer their phones.
Actually a trick I learnt is to phone branches in smaller towns when you need help like this, they answer the phone and are normally much more helpful
Haven't gone yet, need to go in the next week or 2, I'll update the thread once I've gone, if you go before me please reply with an update on how it went. How did it go?
I'm just in the process of getting my documents together and also plan to only go once.
Do you perhaps know what I can show if I don't have a Telkom line or cell contract, as I'm on pay as you go?
Also wondering if I need all of these or just the ones that apply to my situation

I didn't actually ask because she said that the electricity bill was fine. I would just try by email application with your cell contract. Hopefully they'll get back to you soon if it's not accepted. I'll try to go again on Friday and find out for you.@humbledryer did SARS mention what proof of residence is acceptable?
Would a statement from a cellphone contract work?
Thanks for mentioning the email option, I never thought of that but it makes sense with COVID, has anyone done an application via email?
If that works it would be awesome!!
Thanks, I'd appreciate that, why would they not accept the CRA01 form, because that has to be signed and filled out by the person who the electricity bill is in?I didn't actually ask because she said that the electricity bill was fine. Good question - it actually was completed by the person whose name the bill is in. She couldn't really explain why it isn't accepted for this application. Thanks, I'd appreciate that, why would they not accept the CRA01 form, because that has to be signed and filled out by the person who the electricity bill is in?
You will also need to complete the DA185.4A6 for your electronic profile that will be used to send your import and export declaration through the SARS system.I was at SARS Customs & Excise in Cape Town CBD and the lady I dealt with said these docs are all good:
Proof of bank account. Or a bank statement with your account details on. I printed mine and had it stamped at Capitec.
Proof of contact details. An affadavit form from the police station stating that my number is prepaid number. Never had to do affadavit before. They have the forms there. It was very quick and painless.
Current DA 185 form. The one printed last week from the SARS site was an old form. She said to check the date if you get a form online because they don't always remove old forms. I asked her to give me one since I was there so I can't confirm that the new one is online. She said she thinks it is.
Tax compliance certificate. I got mine on e-filing.
Letter of consent. Stating that you're applying for an import code.
Not good:
Proof of address. I used the CRA01 form from the SARS website with a relative's electricity bill since I don't have any utilities or contracts in my name. She said it doesn't work for customs and excise and I would need to get an affadavit from the person whose name the statement is in.
You can e-mail your application to this address.

I'll probably do it in person because it's sort of on my walk to work
