Plex help

Wow that is quite sad that the app can't do something as simple as that. Anyway, Plex, XBMC or Mediaportal? what do you guys prefer?

It's not sad, it's designed that way :D

The whole idea behind Plex is to allow you to play media on any device you own, the problem comes in because not all devices can playback all the different formats of media that are out there. This is where the Plex Media Server comes in as it converts the media to a format that can be read on the device you're streaming to, it does this on-the-fly so you don't even notice it's happening (unless you have a really slow PC).

You get loads of different client applications that then connect to the Plex Media Server to get the content, the Windows Client just happens to be one of them.

Hope you understand better now what Plex is good for. Maybe you should try XBMC? I think that may work better for your situation.

Zoidberg, Diabolus. Thanks a lot. Really enjoying Plex now.

I am also using Filebot to rename all my files and it works great.

I just don't like when I go to my "series" channel and it displays all the episodes over there. Would have liked it if 1 folder with the series names is displayed, and when I go into there, it displays the folders of all seasons.

Of course, I can do that by pressing "enter" the series channel.

Well, yea, but as time goes on, you will eventually start using the "On Deck" and "Recently Added" sections alot more. I get home and whether i copied series into a folder or downloaded it, that's where those episodes will show up. "On Deck" is nice if you're busy binge watching series, as it will always show the next episode in line of the series you have recently watched. So in the end i rarely even go into the folder view unless i'm starting to watch a series i haven't seen in awhile, but after the first episode it will also show up under "On Deck" (so you just need to get that first episode going) .

I must add though , the "Plex Viewer App" differs between devices. The iPad/iPhone Plex app have a very nice "show all series" display where you see a tiled list with an indicator of how many episodes you have not watched per series. My Samsung TV app (yes there is one, you install it directly on your Smart TV and/or Blueray Drive) on the other hand have this scrolling thing (probably to make it easier with the remote control) which isn't as intuitive.

Regardless, that's where the power of Plex comes in, once you got that server going, then you just install the "viewer" app on whatever devices you have and you can watch your stuff on any device. If you got an Xbox/PS3, you can connect to your Plex server as well. Xbox doesn't have a Plex app though, but it has a built in app that will find the plex server and allow you to browse it "explorer" style.

I'm not quite sure what you mean here. The tv shows are categorised by show then by season as the default setting.

I created a "Series" channel. When i go to it, it displays all my weeds episodes. I would like it to display 1 weeds folder and then when i enter that folder, it goes into the season etc. But it will play around with it some more. Just busy renaming those files that filebot has probs with.

Thanks Again.

Any cool plugins? Like a "Games" plugin that holds all the shortcuts to my games?

Sounds like there is something wrong there then. Are you doing this all in the web console?

Yeah.

My folder structure on my local drive is:

D:\Series\Weeds\

then

Season 1
Season 2
Season 3
Season 4
Season 5
Season 6
Season 7
Season 8

And this is the structure for all my other series.

Ye, it doesn't sound like an issue with your folder structure as you say it is showing up in Plex. Have you by any chance changed the view settings? If you go to your TV shows in Plex you will see at the top left there is an icon that looks like 3 lines, click there and make sure "Type" is set to "Show" and not "Episode".

Also, do you have more than one show in there at the moment? It may default to episode view if you only have one show.

I have not played with the view settings.

I have a lot of episodes/shows.

I will check the view settings as soon as I get home.

Thanks.

By default it will, obviously only if you're using Windows. It's all automatic though and it's not stored in the standard metadata format that XBMC uses for instance.

Ok cool, will try and move it to my other drive later today as well.

No, this would be bad. Only reason to do this would be if you have limited free space on your c: drive and then you will have to follow the correct procedure to move this folder otherwise it will just break Plex.

Ok I have an SSD. 40Gigs free. No games installed yet. Busy reading through the plex forums for things that I might have missed.

Are there any plugins that I can use with my Plex to download movies or missing episodes?
