How many people stream off your Plex server?

I'm not sure hey. I think they even changed it now where it creates a random domain and no longer a customizable domain but I might be wrong. I just use it for the onedrive storage and not mails or anything so didn't bother to dig into the domain thing.

I’ll check around on there have a uni project that could definitely use this

I didn’t get any renew email ever and it says my trial is over next month on the 4th

Wonder if it’s renewable but on the 4th it would have given me a year of service which is crazy signed up on the 4/4/2022 expires on the 4/4/2023
 
Is it worth it? I use VLC on my phone to stream from my plex server. Works ok i guess.

Well, if you enjoy it, then I suppose, it may well be woth it. Personally, I would prefer to watch on something a lot bigger than my phone. Enjoy!!

The only reason I am considering it is for hardware transcoding (some episodes take 5 to 10 seconds to start playing) and better user management (not really an issue at this stage). Being able to download stuff in Plex to a phone or tablet will be useful for holidays as well.
 
On Plex pass trial, liking download feature and also Plexamp is damn good, only issue is syncing takes a while but quality is great.
 
I have a dell optiplex micro pc (freebie) which I turned into a mini media server for my home usage only.
Sonarr + Radarr + plex is basically all it's running and works fine for 1 4k stream.
Using the free version of plex though.
Will I benefit a lot from plex pass with hardware acceleration on an i3, 8gb?

I'm running Plex server on a Celeron NUC. I watch on our TVs and tablet using direct stream - most of the half decent clients will function best using direct stream. I'm not sure why one would want to use hardware transcoding, unless you're needing to use smaller file sizes in order to save data. Having said that, my stuff is mostly x265 so file sizes are pretty small already. I'd be interested to hear the experiences of those who do use hardware transcoding.

I just checked mine now with X265 files. It takes a few seconds to start streaming on my Mi Stick but it is using direct play for video and audio. Did a network check and the Stick is getting the full 50/25 line speed of my fibre so I don't think it is a throughput issue from the PC? On a different PC from the Plex Server it starts playing immediately. So maybe just the Mi Stick that is a bit slow? No hardware transcoding currently because I don't have Plex Pass.
 
Free Plex on nuc8i3beh server with MiBox client.

Works fine for x265 files but occasionally gets stuck when seeking too far/too much back and forth. I have to kill and restart the stream.

Doesn't happen often enough that I'd drop $100 to fix it.

I'm running Plex on a 5600x with a GTX1060. No noticeable delays with transcoding
 
If anyone needs to buy a plex pass. Expires tomorrow I think.

Yep. Lifetime pass. There are a bunch of people with lesser internet speed that state the server. They get transcoded down to 720p. Saves the hassle of keeping different versions of the same file.

There are various other subtle advantages with Plex pass as well.

Yes the lifetime is definitely worth it will see. These codes do come and go pretty often, I think. @SeaSickMama got the best deal on lifetime.

Yeah, I can see a couple of handy uses. I'm my case my server sits on the local network so transcoding not really necessary
