As the title reads. Has anyone been experiencing problems with the latest Plex Media Server update for Windows 7?

I have the PMS running on a HPMS running windows 7 and has been running flawlessly for a very long time. The other day I saw there was an update so I ran the update and it installed successfully. Ever since then, windows restarts atleast 10 times a day and then it tells me windows unexpectedly shut down (this happens even while I am watching something via my Roku). After a lot of trial and error I came to the conclusion it was the update to the PMS. I then reverted back to the older version and all works perfectly without sudden shut downs. The only thing that doesn't work is the metadata. When I go and try to fix an incorrect match, the match using drop down is blank and also the drop down menu for selecting (Cine21, Freebase ect) which is a real problem. This works perfectly when I run the latest updates but then I encounter the sudden shutdowns.

Just wondering if anyone experiencing the same or know of anything else I can try.

Not sure if it makes any difference, but I don't have a PlexPass account, I only have a normal free account.

Much better to post on the Plex forums about this: http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/forum/73-windows/

You'll get assistance from Plex pros and developers there.

I had tried originally there but no help. Will try again and see if any help this time. Was just wondering if anyone been experiencing problems with the latest update and if so how they fixed it.

Also, PMS doesn't add any new shows that have been copied over. It will do the normal scan and tell me the scan completed but none of the new content is added. Honestly not sure what to do anymore???

Sorry, I use the Linux version and haven't had any issues with updating. I'm currently running the latest 0.9.8.5 version and have no issues.

This usually happens when you add the wrong folder to the TV Shows library.

If your folder structure is "G:\Legal\Completely Legal\Series\House\Season 1\..." then make sure that you've added the folder "G:\Legal\Completely Legal\Series" to your library and nothing else. At least, that was my problem.

I haven't changed my folder settings at all in the over a year I have been using Plex. This all started after I did the update. When I run he latest version, then everything works like it should except I get the continous shutdowns, and when I revert back to the older version, then there are no more shutdowns but no new shows get added.

Is there a way for me to completely remove PMS and then reinstall without loosing all my metadata? If not or if it might give me the same problem, I have no problem starting from "scratch" with a clean install and then fetching all the metadata for all my content - granted it will take long as I have about 4TB of content but if thats all that will work then I suppose that is the only way.

Also another thing that is weird, when I "Check for Updates" in PMS, it tells me there is no new update and that 0.9.7.28 is the latest version but I know i is not...

So I downloaded and installed Plex Media Server 0.9.8.4.125-ffe2a5d (it is not the latest version) and seems to be working fine for now. I can see all the agents in the drop down menu when I go to fix an incorrect match and all the content that was copied over is now viewable in my PMS. Will leave it for the day and hopefully there won't be any crashes or reboots.

So I spoke too soon. Was running fine for a couple oh hours. Just checked on it now and the PMS Was frozen. Had to do a hard reset again so something still wrong. Honestly running out of ideas here.

Why not do a clean install? Delete the meta-data and the old date and start from scratch? Albeit you'll lose your watched/not watched stats.

As to your question, have the latest version on Windows8 and don't have any issues as of yet with resetting. Only problem I have is some movies and shows showing double the play time on the Samsung player.

Yeah thought maybe that would be the next step. It just makes no sense that it never crashes on the older software but metadata doesn't work and then the latest version metadata works but then have the crashes. All very confusing.

I know that Plex has an issue with some of the Antivirus software. I experienced BSOD on Win7 and Win8 when having AVG internet security installed.

I haven't yet tried new version, but will do so tomorrow...

So I ended formatting my HPMS and reinstalling everything from scratch. First tried making a backup of PMS metadata ect but didn't quite work out so thought it best to start from scratch. Let it tag the whole night and this morning it was done and no sudden restarts yet.

I think the problem came from a corrupt update. When I updated to the latest version on the old system, everything looked exactly the same. But now after doing the fresh install, I see that everything looks different (menus ect) so pretty sure it was a corrupt update or something.

I had some problems with new content as well. It shows the library scan has finished but when I start up plex on my Roku it does not show the new content.

I even checked on the plex media server and the content was there but it was not showing on the Plex client on my Roku.

Any ideas to get Netflix going - Apparently doesn't work on PMS for linux
