That's one of the reasons why XMBC > all, imo. Try XMBC.

I haven't used it on Roku but you should be able to add a channel.

I can add channels through my browser and it will show up in my Home Theater application.

The only reason I'd say it's better then xbmc is the part where you can pause stuff in one room and watch in the other, like every room is synchronous with the server. Where as if you had xbmc it would be independent

I preferred it on my tablet - but prefer XBMC on a TV

Nothing beats XBMC as a media center :D Its got a plugin for everything :D

Plex and XBMC are different beasts. You cannot say one is better than the other as they each have their own practical uses.

Totally - depends if your want separate server/client setup or not. For my uses XBMC is awesome!

I love Plex but they really screwed the pooch with their latest iOS update. Had so many bugs, but at least they released an apology and the fixes are already submitted to Apple.

My only criticism :)

Yeah I also 'love' plex to a degree. Works well in my setup :)

The Plex equivalent here is SS-Plex. I don't see the need though when you have Netflix and Hulu.

Netflix and Hulu are way too limited.

While XBMC has a Hulu plugin, 1channel kinda has everything.

I also like that with the Cabletv plugin I can stream popular channels from around the world. You get cool features like been able to use your phone as a remote.

Also the put.io plugin is a game changer for me. Finally, if I get bored, I love the Nintendo XBMC plugin :D Very cool. Lets you play all the old school games.

Aaah I see plex is based on xbmc.

Both XBMC and Plex offer great unique features and similar ones, which should come as no surprise if you know the history of these two home theater PC (HTPC) platforms. XBMC is open-source software, and Plex is mostly-open source software based on XBMC (though its mobile apps are closed). Although Plex didn't differentiate itself much in the beginning, it has grown into a feature-rich, powerful, and still easy-to-use platform that most anyone could set up with ease. XBMC, on the other hand, tends to trade ease of use for a high amount of customization. To sum up the main difference, Plex is easy but limited and XBMC is hard but almost infinitely customizable. Of course, each platform offers a variety of other advantages and problems. Let's take a look at some common considerations and figure out if you ought to use Plex, XBMC, or a combination of both

So if you want something simple (IE you own an Apple PC) then go for Plex
If you want to take it the next level. Go for XBMC :D

The put.io plugin for Plex works pretty well, used it the other day and streamed a 5GB 720p bluray quality movie without a hitch, quite impressed.

If you use Plex you should really check out the SS-Plex channel.

I did find that Plex became a helleva lot more useful once my ADSL was upgraded to VDSL. I can now actually stream video remotely without it looking like a Lego remake.
