Well Perian plays 99% of my videos, for the rest I use VLC or Mplayer, Plex is my 4th choice.
If you love watching movies on your mac, go download Plex NOW!
It is awesome and great at the same time.
That's all.
I've tried it and a few others, my favourite is boxeePlex is not just another Media Player! It's an organizer and info getter as well!![]()
i'm running 0.9...4? And 10.5 Leopard on iMac.Which version are you running?
Also what Mac are you using?
Are you on SL 10.6.4?
Thanks
Thanks for the reply. I am really stupid as I associated the 10.5 and 10.6 with the version of Plex. Will download it later when the net is bit faster. You already have 10.6 so you're all ready! Have you installed an app before? You extract it then drag it to the folder /Applications.
Ok, how do I make it not load when I log in? It's sucking the life out of my battery. It's not showing in the login items for my account and it doesn't seem to have the appropriate options in its own preferences.
Thanks redcliff - I learn something new every day![]()
probably a stupid question but is it possible to stream from my iMac to iPad with PLEX ?
Yes it is (possible that is, not yes it is a stupid question). Plex has an iOS app that runs on both iPad and iPhone that connects to the plex media server on your iMac and will stream all the content to your device. Two very nice things being it does so over wifi as well as 3G (ie you can be anywhere as long as you can connect to your iMac you are good to go - but given this country's crappy upload speeds on DSL I don't see much streaming remotely...), second nice bit is that plex does all the transcoding of your mkv's on the fly (on the iMac, so no heavy lifting for iPad) so no content restrictions.
Also on app store is 3rd party app called Klexi that does same.
