Plex Thread

What sound bar, and what setting do you have the soundbar (standard / adaptive etc)?
Samsung Sound bar. Came with the Tv.

There are not many settings for this....I changed most of the settings, e.g surround on or off, movie, vs music etc. Doesn't make any difference.

Hey friends, need some help with issue playing videos from Plex.

I am playing using the app on Samsung smart tv, I have a Samsung sound bar and sub connected with optical to the tv. All sound is only from the sound bar and sub.

The volume from Plex is really low. I need to crank it up to at least 40 whereas Netflix or DStv etc 20 is good.

Secondly, for most movies the volume of the dialogue is low and the sound effects really high. So in order to hear what's being said I need to push the volume up to 50.....this becomes a problem when the music or background effects kick in again and then it's too loud.

Any suggestions? Maybe from @DrJohnZoidberg ?
The movies you are watching, are they torrented and if so from which site. I find that YTS has really bad sound on their torrents and I have to crank the volume up to over 40. God forbid I forget about it and switch on YouTube or one of the proper streaming apps.

I have Plex on a Samsung TV, an LG TV, 2 Android boxes and an Xbox. The volume on all these clients is much softer when playing Plex media than any other source. Even playing the same media via the PC gives much louder than using Plex.

I have also experimented with all possible sound settings, but have resigned myself to adjusting volume when changing sources. The other benefits of Plex far outweigh this one problem.

Ditto on a desktop PC ... when I first switched to Plex (several years ago) I tried most everything, including raising questions on the Plex forums. Nada <sigh>

Most of my downloads for plex is 5.1 or better sounds. Coupled with an AVR, setting the center speaker volume much louder than the rest, solves the soft voice sound issue for me. Sounds great too.

Except for the select few shows like top gear which is only available in stereo.

Have to say have not noticed this issue with my LG OLED TV, using Plex native app on TV. Some material is from YTS

Same now with Soundbar connected. Volume on TV was normally 10-12 regardless of source , and now with soundbar, around 10-20% of max volume capability of sound bar.

Have you tried a editing or creating a custom player config on the server?

I'm having an issue, when I delete the TV or Movie files, they still show as available on homepage...even after I have rescanned.
Is there a way for Plex to automatically delete the cover art for shows that have been deleted?

Cheers

Isn't that tied to library clean up settings? I think the default setting is weekly but perhaps you can change it to run more often ? Not anywhere near my PC to check settings but it has to be in that area

Anyone having hassles after this week's Plex server update ?

Pi 3 running Plex, Sonarr etc. under Docker.

After spending most of my week attempting to get my Plex working again - including haunting Google, forums, etc, - I added a Jellyfin container to my Plex Docker install and had it running - without consulting any documentation - within just over 15 minutes.

So it looks as though it's "Ciao Plex"

I guess you could have just rolled back to the previous version you were using that was working ? Did you try that?

I learnt my lesson about just upgrading in December. That's when a bug in their transcoder caused it to crash when there was less than a minute remaining in a video . It came with an update and took about two months to resolve. Now, I ain't updating unless I run into an issue or its at my schedule of once every few months.

As a lifetime subscriber, gonna stick with Plex cos it works for me (and mostly for my sister haha)

Yup, one of the first things that I tried <sigh> I also read log files until my eyes bled :) but to no avail.

When I write a program I have a habit of repeating the error message in one or more logs, along with the circumstances that caused the error message to be thrown, Not so Plex.

I also wondered if the problem might not be associated with the need to connect to the Plex website, to the extent that I logged a ticket with my ISP ... that said, they assured me that all was well.

I haven't yet given up on Plex: I will continue to give it a try for the month or so.

And if I can impose on anyone to waste some time on assisting me, I have some log files that need reviewing by eyes less tired than mine :)

Fok, that's an issue. What about backing up your DB and then starting fresh , recovering DB?

. Never thought about disaster recovery for it and now you got me frightened.

What exactly do you want to back up on your plex server?

For me it is only the watched status of series/seasons/eps and that I have synced to trakt.tv so I would be able to recover that no issue.

If your plex library is large (150+ TB) it takes days to scan.

I'm running my plex backups weekly to prevent that.
