Plex Thread

I was surprised to see it actually have local services, I thought it would be all HBO, Hulu and other stuff not available here.

Do you have to update PMS or is this just from the client. Am down and out so haven't had time to play

Does anyone know how to add a second server to my account? All the web-help articles refer to a "server" tab under settings, but I can't find anything along those lines on my webUI.

Pretty sure I have that there.

Will have a look when not mobile a bit later.

As I recall you just login with your account on the new server and it will auto populate.

Maybe you only see it once there is more than one?

Anybody convert the media files? Optimize for TV. I found it makes difference with 264/265 types in HD (1080p/2160p).

Sorry, I should have come back to post. The issue was that the first connection to a new server has to be from the same network. As the new plex server is on a VPS I needed to use an SSH tunnel for the initial connection. Working like a charm now.

If you are signed into your Plex account from both servers then there should be a drop down menu under your servers name where you can select the second server.

I think he just wanted to add a second server. I personally used a plex claim token that is generated after you log in and added that as an argument to my new plex server. Authorised it and bam was done. No vpns or anything.

When I started with the 4K revolution I made 1080p copies of everything for the other old TV that couldn't do 4K.

But then I realised it's for the kids movies I don't actually watch and now I just get them in 1080p to start with.

Yeah. I did. I set it to auto scan every 3 hours or so. If I want it updated sooner I do a manual scan.

Ideally you'd want it to scan when changes to the monitored folders are detected. Not sure if this works so well with a gdrive. Might not treat or see it as a stock hardrive.

Don't recall my exact settings. Let me check them later on today.

So just to update you if you want to make use of this.

So using the build in webhooks to trigger the scanning and it's working well if you use sonarr and radarr.

Hi everyone, I'm quite a newbie when it comes to Plex.

How do I secure my Plex or is it not necessary?

Then secondly: I have a paid VPN and do I need to use it on the host and or other devices when streaming something?
I get the following error when VPN is on.

Any advice and recomendation would be appreciated.
Thanks

Are you going to be sharing the plex server with other people?
If not, no need for vpn or ssl certs. You might need to port forward if you are having issues.

If you are going to share the server with lots of people I would recommend a reverse proxy with a domain name and then setting up custom server access url.

Yes, will be sharing it with my sister and brother in law, but that's it.
I'll try the port forwarding then. Thanks

I'm not sure if anyone here has had this issue or not, but I have a problem with streaming quality on my new 4k TV. I'm getting the same problem on the TV app and on the MiBox app. When streaming any video from my PC to the app, the streaming quality is quite bad. I've changed the streaming settings on the apps and PC to maximum, but the problem is still there. I've tried streaming 4k, 1080p, 720p etc with the same result. Anyone have a similar problem before?

Was the video transcoded? Either live transcode or pre-transcoded?
Either way, transcode can drastically cut the quality of even 4k streams.

Generally I try to keep my settings tweaked to always allow direct streaming and letting the client do the decoding. Sometimes some android devices just dont allow all codes in the plex client, in which case you need to download a different format of the same content.

Is everything on the same network subnet?

recently my streams have been buffering BADLY. Running Plex on home PC to TV and it was terrible this weekend.
Im on a 100/100mbps Fibre line so there's no reason to be buffering.
So strange and annoying.

I'll need to go check to make sure.
