Plex vs Kodi

Honestly, I don't know. I'm a PC gamer...I don't even have any games on my phone :o.

I would say there are challenges to streaming games across a network that impact both Steam and Nvidia's Gamestream...even an ideal network won't feel as good as playing directly on your console or PC. That's a niggle that's always going to be there.

If you have spare hardware or a laptop available, I'd say try Steam home streaming out and make up your own mind...the lounge machine only needs to be powerful enough to decode an X264 stream.
I'm a pc gamer as well, but the reason why my proposed setup would be ideal is for when I have friends over all partaking in a game at once, like WWE 2K16. I'm trying to get a game night going for the boys.

So that's why I'm so eager to see if this will be a smooth option instead of carrying my pc to the TV every time people come over.

That should be fine actually...same experience for all players. I only came across issues when playing online multiplayer...the fraction of a second made a difference (or at least that's what I blamed for getting killed :p).

Go to your Plex Media Server settings and under network add your IP range to "List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth" or add the server IP in manual connection from the TV/app.

Thanks, I'll do that.

I use a mixture of both. I run a plex server on my 8TB Western Digital My Cloud NAS.

I stream all my stuff to my Android Media Box (MyGica ATX 1960) I use Kodi as a front-end client by installing the Plex Kodi addon. I think you need to be a premium subscriber for plex for that add-on to work. Just a tip, if you are interested in the life time membership, just wait, don't buy right away as Plex often run specials. I got mine when they sold it for $75 on special.

I found, Kodi play-back is better than the Andriod Plex App and it nice to have all my media needs in one place, I can switch effortlessly between my other Kodi add-ons.

the only things I need outside of Kodi, is Netflix, Amazon Video and Youtube. (I dont like the Kodi add-on for youtube)
