I think they work on that 10 day rolling threshold, so you need to pull 40g in 10 days perhaps?
I have downloaded more than 40gb and I have not been shaped in the least.
I also have my doubts about DSG and your claims. I purchased my connection through their website, and customer service was IS Customer Service?
With all due respect, do your homework.
For those that are interested here are the facts: (accuracy can not be verified, as several consultants could not provide 100% accurate info, either unwilling or unknown - so much for transparency)
Shaping period: 6 am - 6 pm (no shaping on weekends)
Throttling mark: 40 GB, currently being "lenient" due to available capacity 60 - 80 GB, however should you exceed 100 GB, your connection is doomed and your connection will be the first to be throttled (and the heaviest) should you fall in the top 10 % (currently set at 60 - 80 GB per month) with an expected speed of no less than 1 Mbps once throttled.
Maximum international throughput that could be expected is well below 4 Mbps and should be between 3.2 Mbps - 3.4 Mbps.
As this ISP, like it's parent IS do not believe in providing its subscribers with all the facts that is required to make an informed decision and with transparency lacking, you would be taking a risk in signing up - as the rules might change without you being made aware of it.
In short, you do not know what you are purchasing.
This seems like another case of misrepresentation (don't even think to approach ISPA or ICASA - useless both of them) and should be forwarded to http://www.asasa.org.za/ for an ISP misrepresenting its product.
Contact [email protected]; should you wish to know more, as the waiting time on their telephone lines are the same as Telkom, need I say more.
It might be worth while to investigate the acquisition of an Altech uncapped account (no throttling or thresholds); from either Open Web (advantage: can instantly switch you to another backbone, should it be required) or TRL Tech (advantage: lower pricing).
