Plugg Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Testing out 6mb uncapped since the 29th and am VERY impressed!

For the last 3 days my family and I have been "stress testing" the line as when the extended family arrives, our usage goes up to quite ridiculous levels so we loaded up a bunch of downloads to see how it ran.

For torrents, the maximum speed seen is 4.8mbps, i.e. 600KB/s this is also affected by the line being only 6mb, a very good result. General browsing with a constant speed of over 400 has been good, no slowdowns at all, using Youtube or Skype was even possible while the line usage was high.

Latency was not tested at all as nobody here really games, but on the one speedtest I did, i got 40ms to Cape Town, this is from Port Elizabeth and was well within acceptable margins imo.

I am very happy with the performance so far. I will be able to see how bad low-priority is most likely tomorrow so will comment on that on Tuesday if any changes are really seen.

Anyway, great service! (P.S. I am still waiting for the debit order form to be re-sent since Friday)

Thank you to all the people that responded to my private messages with the glowing feedback for Plugg.

I want to share this connection with my parents. They use the internet during the day. They gobbled up a massive 35gb between the two of them, playing mostly Facebook games. I am worried that they might affect the performance negatively. They really don't download or stream anything, they just farm. I also don't want to frustrate them with shaping.

Will this be a problem?

As I have mentioned before on this forum; the whole idea behind allowing two concurrent sessions were more to support a small office & the home-line of that user and not two separate households. We can't recommend that accounts are shared by more than one user because no two user's downloading/surfing profiles are the same.

Both lines will contend for the bandwidth. It will never be 50/50 you could end up with one household pulling 90% of the b/w.

Unfortunately that information does not tell me much in order to determine why you experiencing slow connectivity. I would suggest logging a call with [email protected] with as much details as possible in order for them to help you.

The last time I did that I only got a message back saying that it will be escalated and the results make no sense. But these weird fast then slow speeds are common during the day.

I'll contact them again when it gets that bad.

Morning,

Just as a heads-up.

Due to recent multiple submarine cable systems failures in the Mediterranean sea, certain primary and secondary traffic paths will be affected by scheduled emergency cable repairs by an International consortium on Friday, 05/04/2013 between 02:00 and 08:00.

This unfortunately means that ADSL users on Internet Solutions' network will experience a severe degradation of International access for the duration of emergency maintenance.

Thanks for the heads up

Quick follow up; Maintenance were completed around 04:30 this morning and International traffic restored onto those links.

I heard Plugg were going to have some specials. Have I missed anything? The website prices have been unchanged since I last had a look.

1MB uncapped account- if you're looking for something to change! I'll grab a trial account towards the end of the month, so you've got some time to prepare :)

They added different speeds. I was on 10 Mbps and downgraded to 8 Mbps as that is my sync speed, so I'm saving R300 odd a month.
